Dwyane Wade might sit until playoffs

MIAMI – Dwyane Wade won’t rule out missing the rest of the regular season to recover from a right knee injury, but the Miami Heat star said Sunday he hopes to return before the playoffs.

Wade has missed six of the Heat’s past eight games and is still dealing with soreness and swelling in the knee, which he has aggravated twice since initially injuring it a month ago.

“The most important thing is to be healthy,” Wade said Sunday, addressing the media for the first time since he last played March 29. “So when I feel it, then I’ll get back on the court. Obviously, I want to play. But I have to make sure that I’m right. You have to get healthy.”

Wade is one of several key players for the defending NBA champions who have missed games recently as the team tries to balance rest and recovery before the April 20 start of the playoffs.LeBron James sat out three games before he returned Saturday from a hamstring injury to score 27 points in a blowout win against Philadelphia.

“[My hamstring] was a little sore this morning, which I knew it would be,” James said Sunday. “But I feel better today than I did a week ago. So I’m making progress.”

Chris Bosh, who missed Saturday’s game, is recovering from a hyperextended right knee and said Sunday he wasn’t sure when he might try to return.

Wade, James and Bosh were among Miami’s players, coaches and front-office staff members who attended Sunday’s annual Heat Family Festival. The carnival-style event held outside of AmericanAirlines Arena raised more than $503,000 for local charities affiliated with the Heat.

While the injuries James and Bosh have been dealing with have been considered minor, there seems to be more concern around the team regarding Wade’s situation.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Saturday that all three of his marquee players will be considered day to day for the rest of the regular season. But Spoelstra confirmed that Wade has been held back by consistent swelling in his knee.

Wade initially banged knees with a defender during a March 6 game against Orlando and aggravated the injury when he collided with another player two weeks later against Boston. Wade played through the discomfort a few more games before he sat out a back-to-back set against Charlotte and Orlando on March 24-25.

Wade returned for the March 27 loss in Chicago, which ended the Heat’s 27-game winning streak, and also played two nights later in New Orleans. But he had a setback in each of those games, first spraining his right ankle when he stepped on Bulls forward Taj Gibson‘s foot and then took more hits and falls during the game against the Hornets.

“His body will tell us when we’ll play him,” Spoelstra said of Wade on Saturday. “He got hit right on top of his knee twice. He was able to resolve it, then get past it. But in the New Orleans game, he got beat up and was on the floor.”

Wade seemed to downplay the severity of the swelling and the bruise on Sunday, but alluded to areas around the knee that have been the focus of his recent treatment sessions.

Because the Heat have clinched the No. 1 seed in the East and are closing in on securing the best overall record in the league, the team’s approach is that it’s best to be cautious down the stretch and get players healthy now.

“We took care of business so we were able to say, ‘We have these injuries, so let’s take care of it now and be smart,’” Wade said. “I would love to be playing right now. As a player, if you get a couple of days off you, you want to get back to it. But I’m just trying to be smart with my doctors. When I feel like I can get back on the floor, then I will.”

Wade has averaged 21.3 points, five rebounds and five assists in 66 games this season. This is the second straight season he has dealt with a knee injury heading into the playoffs.

Wade played through soreness in his left knee late last season and had it drained during the second round of the playoffs. He ultimately had surgery on the left knee last summer after the Heat beat Oklahoma City in the Finals.

With six games remaining on the Heat’s regular-season schedule, Wade said he’s hopeful he can get back on the court as early as this week. Miami plays Milwaukee on Tuesday, travels to Washington on Wednesday and hosts Boston on Friday.

“Obviously, the biggest thing is to get your wind back and get your legs back under you,” Wade said. “But I’ve been around the block a few times. It’ll be a little adjustment, but I’m not overly concerned about it. I do want to get back on the court before the playoffs to get a rhythm. Hopefully, sometime this week I can step back on the cour

James Franco responds to Gay rumors

James Franco is well aware of the rumors regarding his sexuality — and he admits the gossip is partly his fault.

Franco recently discussed the gay rumors during an interview with Attitude magazine.

“One of the things that’s very much part of my public image is the question of my sexuality,” he said, according to the U.K.’s Pink News. “It’s not something that bothers me in the slightest. It hasn’t gone away and I get asked about it from all sides. It’s partly my doing and partly not my doing.”

Franco also mulled over why some choose to stay closeted in Hollywood.

”I think that the people I have known who are performers who haven’t publicly come out didn’t because they’re afraid it’ll hurt their careers. And they’re afraid they won’t be able to play straight roles anymore,” he told Attitude, according to PInk News. Adding, “If there’s somebody that was well respected and very secure with their career, I could see it happening in a very positive way.”

This isn’t the first time Franco has broached the gay rumors in recent months. While speaking with MTV News in January, the “Oz: The Great and Powerful” actor revealed the homosexual hearsay started in high school. He said he was neither “frightened” by the speculation nor did he care.

The gay rumors certainly didn’t stop when Franco rose to stardom. Talk remained steady after he took roles, such as gay rights activist Scott Smith, and debuted his homoerotic film “Interior. Leather Bar.” at the Sundance Film Festival.

The 34-year-old offered his most memorable response to the speculation back in 2011.

“It’s funny because the way that kind of stuff is talked about on blogs is so black-and-white,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s all cut-and-dry identity politics. ‘Is he straight or is he gay?’ Or, ‘This is your third gay movie — come out already!’ And all based on, gay or straight, based on the idea that your object of affection decides your sexuality.”

“Part of what I’m interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition,” he said regarding his choice to play gay roles. “Or, you know what, maybe I’m just gay.”

Looks like Rihanna is not the only one with babies on the brain.

In Rih’s candid interview with ELLE U.K., the songstress said she “will probably have a kid” within the next five years. Now we discover Chris Brown, Rihanna’s on-again boyfriend, is also feeling up for kids.

“Chris feels the same way — he would have a baby with RiRi,” a source told HollywoodLife exclusively, “but that’s way down the road because they’re both young and in their prime. But yeah, Chris wants kids one day.”

The source added that given their young age and where they are in their careers, “they don’t pressure each other on stuff like that.”

Meanwhile, Brown’s fan base grew by one more this weekend: Rapper Fabolous, who collaborated with Brown on a track on his new album, said Brown is really a good guy but someone the public doesn’t understand, per the New York Post.

“I don’t believe he’s a bad person,” Fabolous told NY Post’s Page Six. “I believe, even if you’re looking at the situation with Rihanna, things happen and you move on.” The rapper added that “the public has perceptions of people off of what they see, not what they know,” an opinion Rihanna has voiced herself in the past.

“When you add up the pieces from the outside, it’s not the cutest puzzle in the world,” Rihanna told Rolling Stone magazine just last month after the backlash she received for getting back together with the guy who assaulted her. “You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it’s different now.”

James had 29 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and Miami tied a franchise record with its 14th straight victory, rallying for a 99-93 victory at New York on Sunday.

“We feel like this is one of our better wins of the season, even under the circumstances that we went through tonight, a little adversity being down double digits,” James said.

Dwyane Wade added 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Heat, who had to overcome a 16-point deficit to beat the Knicks for the first time in three tries this season. Chris Bosh bounced back from a dismal first half to finish with 16 points and Shane Battier hit all four 3-point attempts to score 12.

The Heat won their sixth straight on the road by controlling the final minutes against a team that had a pair of 20-point victories over them this season and looked ready to run them out of the building again.

But James shook off a third-quarter leg injury and was back in top form by the finish, putting it away by coming up with a steal and throwing down a dunk with 23 seconds left.

“Obviously, it’s great to win games, period. But when you’re on a win streak, you’ve got to find many different ways to win ballgames and we’ve had comebacks in the last seconds, we’ve had double-overtime games, but this was probably the most thrilling one,” Wade said. “It was the most challenging. For a team who beat us twice, they handled us twice and they were up 16 in the first half, for us to have the resilience to come back, find a way fight out this win, it was great.”

Anthony scored 32 points for the Knicks, who had won three in a row. Jason Kidd emerged from a lengthy slump to finish with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. J.R. Smith had 13 points and 12 rebounds, but shot 5 of 18 from the field.

“I think we are disappointed because we had an opportunity to win a ballgame here at home against the champs,” Kidd said. “So it’s something we can look at and get better at with those mistakes, especially later in the game.”

The Heat matched their 14 straight wins during the 2004-05 season and finally beat one of their closest pursuers in the Eastern Conference after dropping their first four against the Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

James landed awkwardly when he was fouled trying to catch a lob pass in the third quarter and was trying afterward to loosen his left knee or leg. He looked fine in the closing minutes, making key plays on both ends of the floor.

“His motor is limitless. I don’t want to take that for granted. I don’t just want to assume that he can play 40-plus minutes, but he had to do it on both ends,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “Couldn’t get him out in the fourth quarter and if I would have tried, he probably would have strangled me.

“He was strong and was at his strongest after 40 minutes of basketball.”

Bosh tied it at 87 and Wade’s basket with 4:29 left gave Miami the lead for good. James then blocked Tyson Chandler at the rim and hustled down the floor to put back a Miami miss, making it 91-87.

The Knicks twice were within two, but James scored on a drive the second time. Bosh followed with a jumper for a 97-91 advantage, and after two free throws by Raymond Felton, James ended the Knicks’ final hopes when he stepped in front of a pass headed toward Anthony and broke in alone for the slam.

“They kind of walked us down towards the end,” Anthony said. “We made some mistakes, turned the ball over, and then that turnover was probably just the icing on the cake right there.”

James said he felt the knee a little bit during the game, but expected to be in uniform Monday at Minnesota.

The Knicks beat Miami here by 20 in their season opener and won again in Miami in early December by 20, even while playing without Anthony because of a cut on his finger that required stitches.

This looked headed for another blowout.

Kidd missed his 14 3-point attempts in the last three games and had been in a 7-for-49 slump behind the arc since Feb. 1, finally losing his starting job before Friday’s victory at Washington.

But he made a 3 early in the second quarter, then hit three more in the period. The Knicks rattled off eight points in a row to make it 59-43, their only concern coming when Anthony went to the locker room before the half ended with what the team said was pain in his ribs. He was back when the second half started and said the injury didn’t bother him.

The Knicks’ two victories over the Heat came during their 18-5 start, when they seemed championship capable. But they are just 17-16 since, and Miami’s a far different team now than it was in December.

Bosh had eight quick points in the third quarter after a two-point, 1-of-6 first half. Miami scored the last six of the period, cutting it to 77-73 on Battier’s 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds to go.

Miami finally caught up at 79-all when James nailed his second straight 3-pointer, stomping his feet forcefully as he walked away following the second with 10:04 to play.

Rihanna set for fashion tribute

The New York-based retailer will stock the singer’s designs for River Island from Tuesday and will also launch the RIHtrospective exhibition that celebrates seven of her best-known outfits.

The number of looks to be displayed has a special meaning.

The Barbadian singer recently completed her 777 tour to promote latest musical offering Unapologetic and has also released seven albums, won seven Grammy and Billboard awards and been on seven covers of Complex magazine.

The looks will cover everything from her red-carpet style to her onstage outfits.

The star’s stylist, Mel Ottenberg, told WWD her wardrobe ranges from “really pulled together or grungy for performances.”

According to the website, Rihanna helped pick the looks, which include the Adam Selman pink mini-dress she sported at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last year.

Rihanna’s collection will be available in River Island and Opening Ceremony stores and online from Tuesday.

The exhibition can be viewed at Opening Ceremony’s New York flagship and will stay open for three weeks.

Rihanna is excited to be involved in the fashion project.

“I love the high-street shops,” she gushed to the UK edition of Elle.

“The stylish kids on the streets, they’re the ones that set the trends. The designers see what they’re doing and go and design their line and sell it back to the same kids and it’s like, why not go directly to the source?”

KADNI RELEASES NEW SONG WITH MARVIN SAPP

Burruss possesses many titles, including a reality television star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and entrepreneur who has a line of intimate bedroom toys called “Bedroom Kandi.” She also hosts a late-night show online called “Kandi Koated Nights” where she talks about all things pertaining to intercourse. Still, the 36-year-old singer-songwriter ventured into the gospel world with “Prayed Up,” where she admitted to being a sinner while sharing her testimony.

“I stay prayed up, That gets me by / That’s how I made it through my darkest times / Yeah I’m a sinner and that’s no lie,” Burruss sings in the song. “Thank God my prayers are heard cuz he knows I try / Yeah I stay prayed up, yes I stay prayed up / The only way I made it through my pain is through God’s favor.”

However, some questioned Burruss’ decision to release the record.

“So Kandi has a gospel album out talking about being prayed up. Meanwhile, her site has her hosting a ‘male revue for the ladies,’” one person tweeted.

Another individual followed the same sentiments on the social networking website.

“Kandi is coming out with a gospel song,” one person questioned. “The same Kandi who sells sex toys..?”

However others defended the singer-songwriter in a debate on the social networking website.

“I guess everyone that is criticizing Kandi for making a gospel track leads a perfect life and has never done anything wrong then,” one person tweeted.

Another person thought Burruss’ decision to release a gospel song was a great idea.

“It’s funny that ‘religious’ folks have a say in who can sing gospel and spread the word,” the person tweeted. “I think it’s great that Kandi can reach people.”

Burruss’ took to her own Instagram account that became number one on iTunes gospel charts Monday.

“I knew when I decided to do it that I would be criticized. That’s to be expected,” Burruss wrote on the photograph sharing website. “I am honest about who I am. My great grandfather and my grandfather were Bishops in The Church of God Holiness. I believe in God but I have always struggled with the rules of the church, just like a lot of people.”

The singer’s new song also received backing from the likes of Sapp and singer Fantasia Barrino.

“I wanna thank @Kandi for sharing her heart through song in a different genre and asking me to be apart of that process,” Sapp wrote on his personal Facebook page.

Barrino called the song nothing short of a masterpiece.

“It’s a great song & my MD Javon Hill has his hands in this project,” Barrino tweeted. “Together he @kandi & Marvin Sapp have created a masterpiece!”

NFL player Da’Quan Bowers seized with HANDGUN in his luggage at New York LaGuardia

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested on firearm charges at New York’s Laguardia airport

Authorities say an NFL player has been arrested at a New York airport after police found a handgun in his luggage.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da`Quan Bowers Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is expected to appear in court on Monday evening. He posted $10,000 bond.

Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport as he was about to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh in North Carolina.

Authorities say the loaded .40-caliber weapon was found during a search of his carry-on bag.

The charges carry a minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison.

Meris Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney’s office, told USA Today that Bowers did not try to go through security with his Smith & Wesson firearm.

When he got to the check-in counter, he told airline employees he had a gun in his bag, Campbell said.

She did not have any information on Bowers’ reasoning for having the gun in his bag.

Bowers played college football for Clemson University and was chosen by the Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL draft.

Bowers missed the first six games of the 2012 season with a torn Achilles tendon but returned in time to play in 10 games and record three sacks last season.

The Buccaneers released a statement reading: ‘We are aware of the situation and are gathering information. We will withhold comment until we know all the facts.’

The NFL will also review the matter. League spokesman Greg Aiello said: ‘It will be reviewed under our league policies.’

Former Giants star Plaxico Burress was arrested on the same charge after he accidentally shot himself in 2008.

Burress, whose gun was tucked into his jeans and shot him in the thigh in a Manhattan night club, later accepted a plea deal to a lesser charge (attempted criminal possession of a weapon) and served 20 months in prison.

TOM FORD shows off NEW GUCCI (womens fashion)

Tom Ford put his stamp on London Fashion Week with a rare catwalk show tonight held in the elegant confines of Lancaster House in St. James, a mere rhinestone’s throw from Buckingham Palace.

In the last few years, Ford has made a tentative return to London – one of his several home bases – with a series of exclusive, invitation-only presentations, but today marked the first full-fledged London catwalk show of the Tom Ford brand.

Of course he did it Ford style, in an elegant ‘royal home’ typically used for international diplomatic conferences, not fashion shows. Those with coveted invitations had to wait in the cold and show their passports or other IDs to satisfy royal security requirement before they could be let into the hallowed halls.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour and singer-actor Justin Timberlake – who is currently collaborating with the designer – sat side by side in the front row, with chandeliers and gold-painted ceilings overhead.

Feminine and flattering: Sequins and lace abounded, while jackets offered high neck collars and dramatic shapes

Ford draws a more elegant crowd than many other of the London Fashion Week designers: Many men wore beautifully cut suits and carefully chosen pocket squares, while women wore black outfits set off by exquisite jewels.

Everyone seemed content to sip Laurent Perrier champagne or gin and tonics while Ford let the start of the show slip from late to fashionably late. But, when it began, it was worth waiting for.

 

Inky black spider-web lace was worked into skirts long and short, with the dark fabric set off by brightly coloured sequined jackets. Elsewhere, the contrast was turned on its head, with a black jacket brought to life by an explosion of vivid sequins stitched in a floral motif on a pair of trousers.

Ford also made use of leopard-printed coats and bright pink fur (faux?) and – in a nod to the 1960s – soft black leather jackets with fringes in the back.

Other outfits emphasised a basic colour palette of black and white in interesting contrasts, playing on a zebra-striped theme.

The outfits were demure without being dull, feminine and flattering without being twee (never a word you’d hear mentined in the same breath as Tom Ford, that’s for sure).

Ford, who keeps homes in London, Los Angeles and Santa Fe, made a brief appearance at the end of the show, wearing one of his signature slim-cut black suits and giving his fans a wave.

The general consensus? London hopes Tom is here to stay.

Azealia Banks in hot water!!!!

American rapper Azealia Banks has become embroiled in a bitter Twitter row with Perez Hilton after slapping her own verses over the top of DJ Baauers’ Harlem Shake.

The 21-year-old let rip in a bizarre foul-mouthed rant on the social networking site after her version of the hit track was removed from Soundcloud – branding the New York producer a ‘f****t’ and accusing him of ‘c**kblocking’.

Her fiery comments have divided fans, with US blogger Perez taking offence, telling the rapper she is becoming known for her vitriolic rants rather than her music.

Perez wrote: ‘Classy as always! How does it feel to be better known for all your trash-talking than your music, Azealia?’

Electro hit Harlem Shake has inspired countless videos where one masked person dances alone ignored by those around them.

After her video was deleted the rapper decided to post her version of on Twitter.

Feud: Azealia and Perez Hilton became embroiled in a Twitter row over her slurs

Since the feud started Azealia, who is openly bisexual, has been accused of being homophobic – something the 212 strenuously denies.

Taking to Twitter she wrote: ‘Men in hip-hop beef and say f****t and all kinds of other craziness but I get shunned for doing it.’

She added: ‘Here we go again. Everyone pretending to be so shocked and moved by the word faggot. It’s like society is so bored with itself it needs to hold on to these outdated rules of what you can say and cannot say.’

This situation is a perfect example of how difficult it is to be a female who raps.

‘Art is supposed to be inspiring. If you’re mad at someone for being excited and inspired by your art then you’re doing it wrong.’

One fan added: ‘The fact that people sweat @AZEALIABANKS about rapping over a beat shows how intimidated they are by her talent and skill.’

Defiant: It isn’t the first time Azealia has offended the Twitter community

The Harlem Shake began as a dance in the 1980s but the latest version featured on a flood of online videos is an electronic dance track by 23-year-old Brooklyn DJ Baauer who released the single last year with the record label Mad Decent.

The video starts with one person, often masked, dancing while everyone else in the room pays no attention but when the chorus kicks in they all join in, usually wearing crazy costumes or with props like blow-up giraffes or bicycles.

YouTube said the craze appeared to have started with a posting by a vlogger and spread quickly, with more than 12,000 Harlem Shake videos posted from the start of the month to mid-week watched up to 44 million times.

Harlem Shake has a way to go to top Gangnam Style which made history last December when it became the first ever video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views.

Mack Maine talks Lil Wayne and DRAKE album

2013 is shaping up to be another big year for YMCMB. In the months ahead, the label will release new albums from Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean, Bow Wow, Mystikal, Busta Rhymes, and a Young Money compilation. Young Moneypresident Mack Maine briefed us on some of the upcoming projects at CashMoney’s 4th Annual Pre-Grammy Party over the weekend.

Following Tyga’s Hotel California, Lil Wayne will drop I Am Not a Human Being II on March 26. “It’s lyrically insane,” Mack told Rap-Up TV. “When he does theI Am Not a Human Being, he actually taps into a different part of his brain where he just talks out of his mind and out of this world. Just expect him being Wayne, but more edgy, saying what he wants, a lot of fun, a lot of high energy.”

He also explained how the Kanye West-designed cover art came together. “We don’t have a Kanye track on there, so we improvised and we got a cover from him,” he said. “He did 2 Chainz’ cover [Based on a T.R.U. Story], and we liked 2 Chainz’ cover… Kanye’s great, he’s brilliant.”

Drake’s third album Nothing Was the Same will arrive this summer. “He’s on the same pace as he always is to drop a classic. He’s like 10 songs in,” shared Mack. “Knowing him, that’s only like 4 songs, he probably won’t keep 6 of them. He’s a perfectionist though.”

Also on the slate is another Young Money compilation. While they’ve only recorded one song so far, he’s looking to get the crew in the studio for more. “I’m trying to get some dates where we can all lock in.

Lil Wayne says Heat kicked him out; Heat disagree

Lil Wayne has a song called Troublemaker. Surprisingly, it’s not about his attendance at NBA games.

The rapper left the Miami Heat-Los Angeles Lakers game Sunday afternoon and tweeted he was forced to leave because he was rooting for the Lakers. But Heat spokeswoman Lorrie-Ann Diaz told USA TODAY Sports in an e-mail that Lil Wayne was not kicked out but instead chose to leave.

“So I’m @ da Heat game right, rootin 4 da Lakers kuz dats my team & would u believe they got police 2 make me leave?! Wow!” Lil Wayne tweeted at 5:01 p.m. ET.

One fan who was at the game said security approached Lil Wayne after he made a gesture.

“Random guy yelled at Lil Wayne at #MiamiHEAT game. Weezy looked back, gave him a mean stare & gestured he had a gun,” tweeted Danny Vega, who said he was at the game and sitting near Lil Wayne. “Weezy just got into argument with security at the #MiamiHEAT game. He got kicked out for gun gesture.”

Diaz, the Heat spokeswoman, did not respond to a question about whether security approached Lil Wayne before he left.

Lil Wayne cited racism when he was not allowed into a Western Conference finals game last year, but Oklahoma City Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney said the issue was the rapper didn’t have a ticket to the sold-out game. He then attended an NBA Finals game in Oklahoma City, apparently smoothing over any issues with Thunder staff.

Standing ovation for Ocean while Brown stays seated!

Last Wednesday, Brown appeared in court to face accusations that he violated his probation by submitting false community service records in connection with his sentence for assaulting Rihanna. Rihanna stuck by her man and showed up in court with him.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Rihanna said dating Brown makes her happy and “if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake.”

In other Grammys-related news, the ongoing feud between Brown and R&B star Frank Ocean took another interesting turn. While Ocean was walking to the stage to collect the award for best urban contemporary album, the entire crowd gave him a standing ovation – except Brown. Brown’s album ‘Fortune’ was nominated in the same category.

There is still some obvious tensions between the two singers after a reported fight last month.

Witnesses told deputies that Brown punched Ocean during an argument over a parking space outside a West Hollywood, Calif., recording studio Jan. 27, The Associated Press reported.

Ocean took to Twitter after the alleged brawl and tweeted, “got jumped by Chris and a couple guys…”

Earlier this week, Ocean said he would not pursue criminal charges against Brown, who has not commented on the allegations.
