A Mom’s $6 Trick to a Wrinkle Free Face.

September 10th, 2011 | By love not hate

Marcy, a single mom of three, is the perfect example of a smart consumer using the web to get quality products for a low cost. Marcy was admittedly a bit overwhelmed by her hectic life and had given up on spending time on herself and her needs. Marcy decided to change her life, and recently discovered a clever way of combining two beauty product trials from a trusted company PuraSilk & Kollagen Intensiv to unlock the secrets of anti-aging. Her results are comparable to what you might attain at Medi Spas and Doctors offices for $2000 or more, all the while using nothing but free trial offers..

Marcy thought it was important to share her story with you. This trick has not only removed her wrinkles, but also tightened her neck and face instantly. It changed her life and it can change yours too.

Marcy, who makes an average salary, doesn’t have the extra cash to try every celebrity endorsed Anti-Aging miracle cream out there let alone splurge on expensive medical procedures. At one time she did consider taking out loans for injecting Botox and even contemplated getting a facelift, but became frightened after researching Botox and face lift malpractice stories. Marcy was determined to find a safe and AFFORDABLE solution that would yield real results and not leave her in debt.

Nevertheless, as we began to investigate the countless success stories reported by people from all around the globe, we decided that Marcy’s anti-aging secret was worthy of a closer investigation.

Marcy’s Letter:

“I have to admit I do tend to jump on the bandwagon and I have tried countless skin anti-aging/wrinkle creams such as Oil of Olay, Neutrogena and many more to help me look young again. Unfortunately, the results were never as good as I wanted them to be. Until, one day after watching the news and doing some careful research, I found a way to make my wrinkles go away by using PuraSilk & Kollagen Intensiv.“

Marcy’s skin care problems were a result of harmful UVA & UVB exposure from years of exposure to indirect sunlight and time spent tanning, which led to premature aging and wrinkles during her early thirties.

It got worse after she lost her job. She often stayed up all night and became very addicted to coffee and cigarettes. Two packets a day and overeating didn’t help her skin. Marcy started developing dark circles around her eyes which started to become baggy with time. After she gave birth to her children, she often felt that she always looked much older than she was. Before she knew it, the kids were in high school and she was getting older and older.

Every month she began to notice more lines and wrinkles on her face. Gravity seemed to have a great effect in pulling her chin downward. Even her mom looked at her with that concerned face and told Marcy she looked extremely worn out. That was the moment Marcy realized it was time to stop wasting her time with products from the local drug store and do something about it.

Her initial thoughts were to turn to Botox and even a facelift to deliver the results that she was so eager to find. Looking back on it now, she has said she didn’t know what she was thinking! “Who in their right mind wants to inject themselves with chemicals or go under the knife just to look a few years younger?”

The Solution:

Luckily her sister Jen, talked Marcy out of plastic surgery and told her about a skin rejuvenation segment on the news. which opened her mind to the sensational skin firming effects of Vitamin D. Vitamin D had been featured in numerous publications which gave credibility to what the news segment uncovered. So Marcy started her own research for products which were loaded with Vitamin D.

While researching the best anti-aging/skin care products, she discovered celebrities had been using Vitamin D for years to stay and look young. A prominent celebrity skin care doctor also revealed that using PuraSilk was the celebrity secret to success as it contains powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and moisturizing agents in addition to Vitamin D.

They work in tandem to achieve amazing results. While the Vitamin D rejuvenated the skin with collagen production, the additional ingredients in PuraSilk would erase damage from the inside out! There are no antioxidants more powerful than the those found in PuraSilk. Antioxidants are essential to help us neutralize free radicals which are the compounds that cause the body to grow wrinkled and develop health issues. After a few days of extensive research and comparing product features, prices, and reviews of popular products on the internet, Marcy had finally managed to find the WINNERS!

The products were PuraSilk (which had been featured on the initial newscast) and Kollagen Intensiv. She began to look for the products in retail stores but couldn’t find them anywhere as the products were only available online. After searching thru Google Marcy, found the link to get her free trials of PuraSilk and Kollagen Intensiv.

Great Results from a FREE TRIAL and NO surgery? Count me in!

“Based on my research, I knew PuraSilk and Kollagen Intensiv would deliver incredible results and the fact that I got them as a free trial was the icing on top. I never would have thought that something which is being offered for free could ever yield a better result than the more expensive anti-aging solutions.“

“Why are they offering these free trials?” Because they want people to try it! The company who manufactures these products is so confident that people will see visible results within a few weeks that they are sure the free trial participants will come back and purchase more.

Marcy started to notice several changes within weeks. The picture on the right was taken around the third week after she started using PuraSilk and Kollagen Intensiv regularly. She used both PuraSilk and Kollagen Intensiv only once a day in the morning.

Her wrinkles are smoothed out, her eye lines are gone and her skin glows. Her skin continues to get firmer and firmer. In addition to her renewed radiant skin, Marcy experienced a significant increase in energy because of the added benefits of the antioxidant Vitamin D.

Now with her new radiant skin, Marcy has more confidence than ever and people definitely say she looks much younger, is more energetic and brighter! We here at Consumer Lifestyles agree 100%!

Marcy’s mom was so amazed with the results she ordered the products for herself.

A real vampire lady!!!

September 10th, 2011 | By love not hate

A Florida woman was charged Friday with aggravated battery on an elderly person after she allegedly attacked and bit a sleeping senior citizen, claiming she was a vampire.

The alleged attack occurred just before midnight on Thursday on the porch of a vacant Hooters Restaurant, The St. Petersburg Times reported.

Milton Ellis, 69, says he was sleeping when Josephine Rebecca Smith, 22, attacked him and began shouting that she was a vampire and that she was going to eat him, according to the report. Police told The Times that Smith bit off chunks of Ellis’ face and part of his lip.

There were reportedly visible blood stains on the porch and police reportedly found her at the scene half naked and covered in Ellis’ blood, MyFoxTampaBay.com reported.

Ellis was able to make his way to a nearby gas station in his wheelchair bloodied after the alleged attack.

Police told the station that Smith says she doesn’t remember anything.  She was not assaulted in any way, police said.

“It seems more like a psychotic reaction or a maybe a drug-induced psychological reaction,” said Dr. Laura Umfer, a psychologist told the station.

six million in darkness

September 9th, 2011 | By love not hate

A major power outage, which left more than six million people in California and Arizona in darkness, was caused by a single maintenance worker, it has been revealed.

The power cut took two nuclear reactors offline, grounded flights, caused major traffic jams and trapped people in elevators and on fairground rides in both states.

San Diego bore the brunt of the blackout and most of the nation’s eighth-largest city was darkened. The city trolley system that shuttles thousands of commuters every day was shut down and rush hour traffic hit gridlock.

Disasters Thousands Evacuated as Wildfire Destroys Nearly 500 Homes in Texas

September 6th, 2011 | By love not hate

Firefighters trying to control a wind-fueled wildfire that has destroyed nearly 500 homes in Central Texas were looking for a few overnight hours of diminished winds as thousands of evacuees spent the night away from their threatened homes.

Slack winds were expected after midnight Tuesday and could enable firefighters to make progress on the massive blaze racing through rain-starved farm and ranchland, authorities said. Fanned in part by howling winds from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, the blaze rapidly grew Monday to at least 25,000 acres.

“This is a very mean-looking fire,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry told Fox News Tuesday. “It is serious and it’s widespread,” he said, noting that firefighters from as far away as Oregon and California have been called to Texas to assist authorities.

At least 5,000 people were forced from their homes in Bastrop County, about 25 miles east of Austin, and about 400 people were in emergency shelters, officials said Monday. School and school-related activities were canceled Tuesday.

In Bastrop, a town of about 6,000 people along the Colorado River, huge clouds of smoke soared into the sky and hung over downtown. When winds picked up, flames flared over the tops of trees. Helicopters and planes loaded with water flew overhead, and firefighters along a state highway outside the city converged around homes catching fire.

“Waiting is the most frustrating thing,” said Gina Thurman, 47, choking back tears as she sat by herself in the shade on a curb outside Ascension Catholic Church, one of several shelters in the area. “You’re sitting there and you don’t know anything but your house is probably burning.”

Rick Blakely was among about 30 people sleeping on cots at the church. The 54-year-old said he was in a state of shock and “not expecting anything to be standing” when he returned to his home.

“I just don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said.

Strong winds coupled with drought conditions allowed the fire to travel quickly over somewhat hilly terrain, burning through pine and cedar trees and wiping out subdivisions as well as ranchland. Dry conditions were expected to persist at least through the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The fire was far enough away from Austin that the city was not threatened, but it consumed land along a line that stretched for about 16 miles, Texas Forest Service officials said.

The wildfire destroyed at least 476 homes, and about 250 firefighters were working around the clock using bulldozers and water trucks against the fire, Bastrop County Judge Ronnie McDonald said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, and officials said they knew of no residents trapped in their homes.

But the blaze was “nowhere near controlled” on Monday and a separate, smaller blaze south of the city was growing larger, said Mike Fischer, the county’s emergency management director. It’s unclear how the fire began.

Crews have responded to nearly 21,000 wildfires in Texas since the traditional fire season began early in the year. Outdoor burning, including campfires, is prohibited in all but three of the state’s 254 counties.

The governor’s office said at least 40 Texas Forest Service aircraft were involved in the firefighting Monday along with a half-dozen Texas military aircraft.

The new outbreak led Perry to return home to Texas, cutting short a visit to South Carolina, where he was campaigning for the Republican nomination for president. He also canceled a trip to California.

Since December, wildfires in Texas have claimed 3.5 million acres — an area the size of Connecticut — and destroyed more than 1,000 homes, Perry said. The governor said it was too early to say whether he would attend Wednesday’s GOP debate in California.

“I’m not paying attention to politics right now,” Perry said. “There will be plenty of time for that. People’s lives and their possessions are at stake, and that’s substantially more important.”

Authorities mobilized ground and air forces to fight the largest of at least 63 fires that broke out in Texas since Sunday as strong winds from what was then Tropical Storm Lee swept into Texas, which has endured its worst drought since the 1950s.

On Sunday, about 200 miles to the northeast in Gladewater, a 20-year-old woman and her 18-month-old daughter died when a fast-moving wildfire gutted their mobile home. That fire was out Monday, although several other major blazes continued to burn in at least four other counties in central and northern Texas.

To the west of Austin in Travis County, at least 20 homes were lost and 30 others were damaged in another fire. More than 1,000 homes were under mandatory evacuation and 25 lost in a third fire also in the Austin area.

At least two-thirds of the 6,000-acre Bastrop State Park have burned. The park is home to endangered Houston toads and several historic rock and stone buildings built in the 1930s and 1940s that officials are trying to protect, said Mike Cox of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

From the park’s front gate, Cox said: “All I see is a wall of smoke.”

Residents in Bastrop County are being asked to call either 512-332-8856 or 512-332-8814 for updates on the fire as well as evacuation orders.

Jim Jones Disses Lil Wayne

September 1st, 2011 | By love not hate

Never one to hold his tongue, Jim Jones took to Twitter to diss Lil Wayne for wearing jeggings and claiming Blood.

The Young Money boss closed out the VMAs rocking a pair of tight Cheetah/Leopard Jeggings and red vans. Twitter was in a frenzy!

Jim Jones tweeted “Real Men Don’t Wear Spandex SMH Lol.”

The pants obviously distracted from the Young Money head’s performance, so much so that a Twitter account for them has been made: @Waynes_Jeggings.

He also took a shot at Weezy for claiming gang affiliation with the Bloods, a gang that Jim slyly repped long before Weezy ever donned a red rag.

Lindsay Lohan wants Chris Brown!

August 30th, 2011 | By love not hate

Two troubled stars in Hollywood are likely to have a get-together if Lindsay Lohan has her way. After the 2011 Video Music Awards wrapped up on Sunday night, August 28, the former “Mean Girls” star sent an invite to Chris Brown by simply tweeting, “@chrisbrown wanna meet?”

The 25-year-old actress who takes on the role of April Booth in “Machete” posted the invitation after being left impressed by the “I Can Transform Ya” singer’s performance at the awards show. Just hours earlier, she wrote on her Twitter page, “@ChrisBrown killed it. #MTVVMAs.”

On Sunday night, Chris took the stage inside Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles and delivered epic dance routines. He first stomped onto the stage and danced to his hit “Yeah 3X”. He then unleashed some dance moves to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Wu Tang Clan’s “Protect Your Neck”, before transitioning back to his dance hit “Beautiful People”.

Irene Flood Waters Threaten Vermont Towns

August 29th, 2011 | By love not hate

MONTPELIER, Vt. – The storm that had been Hurricane Irene crossed into Canada overnight but wasn’t yet through with the U.S., where flood waters threatened Vermont towns and big city commuters had to make do with slowly reawakening transit systems.

The storm left millions without power across much of the Eastern Seaboard, killed at least two dozen and forced airlines to cancel about 9,000 flights. It never became the big-city nightmare forecasters and public officials had warned about, but it caused the worst flooding in a century in Vermont.

Irene Pummels the East Coast

Hurricane Irene has been lowered to tropical storm status after causing widespread flooding and damage along the East Coast, leaving millions without power.

Many of the worst effects arose from rains that fell inland, not the highly anticipated storm surge along the coasts. Residents of Pennsylvania and New Jersey nervously watched waters rise as hours’ worth of rain funneled into rivers and creeks. Normally narrow ribbons of water turned into raging torrents in Vermont and upstate New York late Sunday, tumbling with tree limbs, cars and parts of bridges.

“This is not over,” President Barack Obama said from the Rose Garden.

Hundreds of Vermonters were told to leave their homes after Irene dumped several inches of rain on the landlocked state. Gov. Peter Shumlin called it the worst flooding in a century, and the state was declared a federal disaster area.

“We prepared for the worst and we got the worst in central and southern Vermont,” Shumlin said Monday. “We have extraordinary infrastructure damage,” including communities that were cut off, hundreds of roads closures and the loss of at least three historic covered bridges.

Video posted on Facebook showed a 141-year-old covered bridge in Rockingham, Vt., swept away by the roiling, muddy Williams River. In another video, an empty car somersaulted down a river in Bennington.

“It’s pretty fierce. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Michelle Guevin, who spoke from a Brattleboro restaurant after leaving her home in nearby Newfane. She said the fast-moving Rock River was washing out the road to her house.

Officials at one point thought they might have to flood the state capital, Montpelier, to relieve pressure on a dam. But by Monday morning that threat had abated.

Nearly 5 million homes and businesses lost power at some point during the storm. Lights started to come back on for many on Sunday, though it was expected to take days for electricity to be fully restored.

Only about 50,000 power customers in New York City went dark, but people there had something else to worry about: getting to work Monday.

The metropolitan area’s transit system, shut down because of weather for the first time in its history, was taking many hours to get back on line. Limited bus service began Sunday and New York subway service was partially restored at 6 a.m. Monday.

Commuter rail service to Long Island and New Jersey was being partially restored, but the Metro-North Railroad to Westchester County and Connecticut was suspended because of flooding and mudslides.

Riders were warned to expect long lines and long waits, but early commuters reported empty subways and smooth rides.

Mentor Vargas, 54, said he made his 40-minute trip on the J train without incident. “It seems people aren’t going to work today,” he said on his way to work at a repair company in Queens.

Likewise, Philadelphia’s transit system was mostly restarted Monday, though some train lines weren’t running because of downed trees and wire damage.

Airports in New York and around the Northeast reopened to a backlog of hundreds of thousands of passengers whose flights were canceled over the weekend.

Some of New York’s yellow cabs were up to their wheel wells in water, and water rushed over a marina near the New York Mercantile Exchange, where gold and oil are traded. But the New York flooding was not extensive from Irene, whose eye passed over Coney Island and Central Park.

The New York Stock Exchange was opening for business on Monday, and the Sept. 11 memorial at the World Trade Center site didn’t lose a single tree.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg defended his decision to order 370,000 residents to evacuate their homes in low-lying areas, saying it was impossible to know just how powerful the storm would be. “We were just unwilling to risk the life of a single New Yorker,” he said.

Irene had at one time been a major hurricane, with winds higher than 110 mph as it headed toward the U.S. It was a tropical storm with 65 mph winds by the time it hit New York. It lost the characteristics of a tropical storm and had slowed to 50 mph by the time it reached Canada.
Chris Fogarty, director of the Canadian Hurricane Centre, warned of flooding and wind damage in eastern Canada and said the heaviest rainfall was expected in Quebec, where about 250,000 homes were without power.

At least 25 people died in the U.S., most of them when trees crashed through roofs or onto cars. One Vermont woman was swept away and feared drowned in the Deerfield River.

Officials worked to repair hundreds of damaged roads, and power companies picked through uprooted trees and reconnected lines.

One private estimate put damage along the coast at $7 billion, far from any record for a natural disaster.

Twenty homes on Long Island Sound in Connecticut were destroyed by churning surf. The torrential rain chased hundreds of people in upstate New York from their homes and closed 137 miles of the state’s main highway.

Authorities in and around Easton, Pa., kept a close eye on the rising Delaware River. The National Weather Service forecast the river to crest there at more than 27 feet, about 5 feet above flood stage.

In the South, authorities still were not sure how much damage had been done but expressed relief that it wasn’t worse.

“Thank God it weakened a little bit,” said Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, who toured a hard-hit Richmond neighborhood where large, old-growth trees uprooted and crushed houses and automobiles.

In Norfolk, Va., where storm surges got within inches of breaking a record, most of the water had receded by Sunday. There was isolated flooding and downed trees, but nowhere near the damage officials predicted.

“We can’t believe a hurricane came through here,” city spokeswoman Lori Crouch said.

In North Carolina, where six people were killed, the infrastructure losses included the only road to the seven villages on Hatteras Island.

“Overall, the destruction is not as severe as I was worried it might be, but there is still lots and lots of destruction and people’s lives are turned upside down,” Gov. Beverly Perdue said in Kill Devil Hills.

In an early estimate, consulting firm Kinetic Analysis Corp. figured total losses from the storm at $7 billion, with insured losses of $2 billion to $3 billion. The storm will take a bite out of Labor Day tourist business from the Outer Banks to the Jersey Shore to Cape Cod.

Irene was the first hurricane to make landfall in the continental United States since 2008, and came almost six years to the day after Katrina ravaged New Orleans on Aug. 29, 2005.

Kanye West Falls On Stage in Norway (Video)

August 11th, 2011 | By love not hate

Watch The Throne is burning up the iTunes chart but that doesn’t mean anything when you can’t watch your feet. In a recent concert in Norway, rapper Kanye West fell on stage during his performance of the popular song All Of The Lights. Perhaps it was literally, all of the lights, that caused him to trip over his feet and fall on stage. Kanye was just about to take somebody to that ghetto university when he fell. Of course Kanye’s big, bold, confident attitude allowed him to get right back up and continue on with his performance. If he was mad about anything it was probably that his outfit got a tad bit dirty from the fall. A fan at the concert caught the footage of the fall:

Big Boy Arrested For Drug Possession in Miami

August 8th, 2011 | By love not hate

Yesterday rapper Big Boi from the Atlanta based group Outkast, was arrested in Miami, Florida on charges of drug possession. Documents from the Miami-Dade County Department show that he was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Supposedly he was carrying ecstasy, MDMA powder and Viagra. The Viagra got him in trouble simply because he didn’t have a prescription for it.  Customs and border control got Big Boi as he was coming off of a cruise ship. After being arrested, he was let out for $16,000 bond. This comes as a major surprise to me. A lot of celebs have gotten in trouble with the law this week including Fantasia and Big Sean. I don’t know what’s going on. Big we praying for ya …

We were in this abandoned mining town, doing this shot where I was all glammed out in black lace, and I had to lie down on this old wooden porch. I got so many splinters, in so many painful places, but I just stayed focused and tried to be sexy. I loved the contrast and how it all came together.”

Nicki Minaj ATTACKED and Rise to fame on E!

July 13th, 2011 | By love not hate

The website reports that Minaj told hotel staff to call the police, before following the man into a hotel room.

Once the cops had arrived, the Super Bass rapper claimed their argument had carried on once inside the room, and that the unknown man had hit her in the face, striking her lower lip.

The man, who Nicki stated that she was NOT in a relationship with, is then said to have fled the hotel, before Minaj informed police she would not be pressing charges against him. A report of the incident was then filed by cops.

The 26-year old, who is currently on tour with Britney Spears, is said to be dating rapper Safaree Samuels, but it is not known if he is the man involved in the altercation.

Minaj also hit the headlines last week after her cousin, Nicholas Telemaque, was murdered in New York, after suffering gunshot wounds to his torso.

Family’s grief as mother ‘shoots dead her three young daughters then turns gun on herself’

July 13th, 2011 | By love not hate

A mother shot dead her three young daughters – the youngest of whom was just six-months-old – then turned the gun on herself in a tragic murder-suicide, New Orleans police said.

The children’s father, named as Ronald Peters, made the horrific discovery when he returned home from work and none of his little girls ran to greet him.

He walked into an upstairs bedroom and discovered the body of his partner, 29-year-old Nadia Braxton, lying over the couple’s three daughters, Kayla, 12, Nayax, 18 months and Nyla, six months.
The shootings have stunned the quiet middle-class suburb of Kenner in New Orleans, where the family had lived since before Hurricane Katrina.

One relative, who identified herself as Ms Braxton’s aunt, was crying so much she could barely talk. She said: ‘They were loved. They were so loved.’
Ms Braxton had been shot in the forehead, as had her two youngest daughters. The children were lying lengthwise on the bed, with their mother’s body lying across theirs.

Police recovered a gun from the foot of the bed.

Officers are questioning the children’s father, who found the bodies at around 5pm, but say unless an autopsy changes the evidence, the case appears to be a murder-suicide.

As the bodies were brought out by police, seven family members huddled crying in the street.

Police said they had no record of any calls or disturbances at Ms Braxton’s home, a neatly kept two-story brick and white weatherboard house with red shutters in a quiet suburban area.
Neighbours said they only learned something was wrong when police cars pulled up Tuesday. They didn’t know the family, but said they were always polite.

George Windstein, who lives one house away from the family, said: ‘They kept to themselves.

‘We never heard from them, let alone had any trouble with them. They’re the kind of people you’d be glad to have for a neighbour.’

Another neighbour, Debbie Thiele, said: ‘They were quiet. You never even really saw her.

‘You’d see him outside washing his car, that kind of thing. But not to really get to know them.’

Maureen Callero, who lives opposite, said she had never seen the couple fighting. She said Mr Peters worked in construction, but also had a second job,

She said: ‘He worked from early morning. He worked hard.’

No charges have been brought, and police are still investigating.

FACEBOOK IS ABOUT TO INTRODUCE MUSIC!!!!!!

July 12th, 2011 | By love not hate

A software developer claims to have uncovered evidence pointing to an unannounced music service on Facebook, provisionally called ‘Vibes’.

The reference was spotted in the code for Facebook video calling by Jeff Rose, who wondered whether Facebook’s new Video Chat had used his version of the video-phone program Skype or installed a second copy.

On his blog, Rose wrote: ‘As any curious geek would, I started checking things out.’

Rose says he discovered that it made reference to features called ‘Peep’ for video calling itself and also to ‘Vibes’, an apparent music service

He said a file called FacebookVideoCalling.jar contains Javascript that names the video plugin, com.facebook.peep, while a second application, com.facebook.vibes is linked to MusicDownloadDialog.

‘I searched around to see what this is all about, and it seems that this is an unannounced feature that has yet to be released.

‘The vibes app connects with a music download dialog in the page though, so I’m guessing that with this release we are seeing the seeds for Facebook’s upcoming music offering.’

As Facebook Video Chat is not called ‘Peep’, it seems likely that any new music service could have a public name other than ‘Vibes’.

Earlier this year some reports suggested Facebook would announce a tie-up with Spotify, the internet music service.

As Spotify is finally opening to U.S. music fans, that means deals with record labels may well be in place to reach all or most of Facebook’s 750million users around the world.

Last week Facebook announced the deal with Skype that added live video chat to the social networking site – marking the latest step-up in the battle against Google, the internet search engine.

The same week, Google launched its Google+ service, which also has a feature that allows video calls.

Google+, launched on June 28, includes video conferencing for up to 10 people on its application called Hangouts.

The two companies are now locked in a head-to-head technological race and the ability to add music is an added engine of growth for Facebook.

One in every nine people in the world now has a Facebook account, while its number of users has shot up to 750million.

The partnership with Skype brings Facebook closer to Microsoft, which is one of its shareholders after investing $240m in the company in 2007 and bought Skype for $8.5billion in May.

Phone hacking can extend beyond voice mail

July 11th, 2011 | By love not hate

While the phone hacking by British tabloid News of the World was unexceptional by technical standards, security experts say the scandal portends how the growth of smartphones will lead to more sophisticated breaches.

The tactics that tabloid reporters used to eavesdrop on high-profile British targets — and eventually led News Corp. to announce Thursday it is killing the 167-year-old publication — were remarkably low tech.

Former News of the World staffers say that reporters employed tricks to access voice-mail inboxes and procure a great deal of information from British celebrities and the royal family. Experts say that to obtain the PIN codes needed to access those accounts, the reporters used an illegal method known as pretexting.

This tactic involves calling, say, a customer-service representative for a cell-phone operator and impersonating someone to get details about that person’s account. In many places, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, such practices are now prohibited.

Pretexting used to be a vital tool for freelance investigators, said Frank Ahearn, a former detective who does consulting on how to avoid detection, in an interview with CNN last year. “I could still do it, but I just don’t, because it’s illegal now,” he said.
News of the World appears to have exploited a mechanism in mobile-phone carriers’ systems that allows people to access voice-mail messages remotely, from any phone, experts say.

The episodes followed an even more primitive breach in the 1990s when the Sun, another British tabloid, published recordings of royal family members’ phone conversations. Among the revelations: James Gilbey, a close friend of Princess Diana’s, frequently referred to her affectionately as “Squidgy.”

Those unsecured mobile communications, in the days of analog transmissions, were easily tapped by amateur ham-radio operators as well.

Security on smartphones

Squidgygate aside, the migration to more advanced cell phones in recent years has facilitated more sophisticated intrusions. Smartphones have become the dominant type of mobile device bought in the U.S., according to Nielsen, and are growing rapidly worldwide.

With these pocket computers, intruders have myriad more entry points available to them.

Two of the most common, security analysts say, involve tricking a phone user into installing poison applications or opening malicious links in their Web browsers. Attacks using the latter method are becoming ever more sophisticated because software makers provide few safeguards against them.

With the proliferation of curated app stores, scammers are finding it difficult to sneak their virus-laden software onto people’s phones undetected. Apple and many others, not including Google’s Android, vet apps before making them available online.

Software providers also maintain a “kill switch” that allows them to delete problem programs remotely from customers’ phones after they’ve taken root. And some carriers, such as AT&T, have required that customers only install Android apps from trusted storefronts.

Security researchers have long warned that cell phones are poised to be the next frontier for cyber attack.

“It’s always been a concern,” said John Walls, a spokesman for industry group CTIA Wireless. “That’s why, No. 1, the carriers do invest a vast amount of resources to provide security within their own networks.”

For example, operators have increased the security measures in place to block junk text messages before they reach a recipient’s handset, Walls said.

Cell phones are “built with at least some form of protection engineered from the beginning, which was not the case with PCs,” said Horace Dediu, who runs a Helsinki, Finland, mobile consulting firm called Asymco.

But those protections have, in some cases, bred a false sense of security, Dediu said.

“People feel safer with these things,” he said. “You can see that psychologic attacks (convincing someone to install a malicious app, for example) are always going to be possible.”

Pretexting is ultimately about social engineering, Walls said. And telecoms increasingly train customer-service workers to follow strict guidelines to keep information from falling into the wrong hands, he said.

Convincing phone users to click a strange link or install an app that steals their data is also a form of social manipulation. And a relatively easy one at that, researchers say.

How to protect yourself

But the mobile security apocalypse that has long been forecasted hasn’t come.

So far, mobile attacks have most often attempted to trick people into sending expensive text messages or making pricey phone calls to 900 numbers, because those ruses are the simplest and most lucrative, experts say.

When it comes to stealing personal information, cyberthieves prefer to grab reams of private data from corporate servers, such as the recent attacks on Sony, experts say.

Some security firms are working on software to protect smartphones. AnchorFree, for example, is building a program that remotely shields Apple customers from problems.

Eugene Lapidous, AnchorFree’s chief architect, said in a recent interview that “iPhone doesn’t protect itself. So we have to provide some intermediary service in the cloud.”

If you regularly download apps or media files, or access shared Wi-Fi networks via your phone, CNN mobile columnist Amy Gahran says it’s a good idea to purchase a mobile security package.

Many mobile security packages are available for $20-$30 upfront, plus about the same amount per year. TopTenReviews.com recently published a comparison chart of 10 leading mobile security services for consumers.

But security software for phones so far has mostly been an underserved and largely undesired market.

While many more safeguards are in place for phones, the checklist for protecting oneself sounds similar to the handouts many corporate information-technology departments give to employees: Don’t lend your equipment out; don’t install suspicious programs; use common sense.

“We urge people, just like you would on a computer: Be wary of addresses or communications with which you’re not familiar,” Walls said. “It sounds simple.”

It is. But as unscrupulous reporters have shown, some phones can be fairly easy to crack.

Della Reese Is A Weed-Smoking Minister

July 11th, 2011 | By love not hate

SMH at these folks trying to throw Della Reese under the bus for burning a lil something!!

“Touched by an Angel” star DELLA REESE is a pot-smoking preacher who covered up for employees after they swindled her church out of a small fortune.

That’s the shocking accusation of the TV legend’s former executive assistant Billie Hall, who claims Della and her husband Franklin Lett basically “looked the other way” while employees mismanaged funds at their Understanding Principles for Better Living Church.

Even worse, Hall accused the 79- year-old actress – who’s an ordained minister – of using marijuana and asking a church employee to score dope!

“I worked for Della and her husband for nine years, and I’ve seen her smoke pot on a daily basis. She was stoned when she went to the ‘Touched by an Angel’ set,” Hall told The ENQUIRER.

While Della says she’s not “addicted” to pot, she admitted to The ENQUIRER: “I smoke a joint or two every now and then to relax.”

A few years after the drug fiasco,Della discovered $1.5 million was missing from the church coffers. She and her husband said they traced the loss to former employees who had been cashing church checks and using church credit cards. The ENQUIRER also obtained court documents concerning allegations of misappropriation of funds, and they show that another former employee was asked to put money from the church into what the employee believed were personal accounts.

Della said she informed her congregation about the missing money, but chose not to prosecute the employees.

“I’m not that type of person, and I decided not to drag the church through all that,” she explained.

Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker tie for higest paid actress

July 7th, 2011 | By love not hate

Which Hollywood woman is making the most bank? It’s a toss-up – between Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Forbes has unveiled its top earning women in Hollywood list with Jolie and SJP sitting at the top, having each taken in an estimated $30 million between May of 2010 and May of 2011. Forbes came up with their estimations by chatting up industry insiders, and the earnings reflect pretax gross income, and doesn’t account for any deductions for management, agent or attorney fees.

Jolie, 36, added “Salt” and “The Tourist” to her resume in 2010, and while the latter may not have impressed many stateside it certainly did overseas. Thanks to international support, the movie, co-starring Johnny Depp, went on to make $280 million.

Parker, meanwhile, is still raking in “Sex and the City” dough. Since she wore both actor and production hats on the series, she’s getting a nice cut from the reruns. “Sex and the City 2″ also didn’t receive a lot of critical love, but the 2010 movie still went on to earn $290 million. Not to mention the fact that Parker also earned $18 million from her line of perfumes.

Coming in behind those two top earners are Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who earned $28 million a piece in that time frame. Julia Roberts, whose film “Larry Crowne” had a disappointing showing at the box office opening weekend, comes in fifth, having earned $20 million, the same as “Twilight Saga” star Kristen Stewart.

Schoolboy, 14, ‘shot dead gay classmate because he thought he had a crush on him

July 5th, 2011 | By love not hate

Brandon McInerney was a 14-year-old from a broken home when he was accused of gunning down a gay classmate in front of stunned students at an Oxnard, California middle school in 2008.

Three years later – and six months shy of legally becoming an adult – McInerney is going on trial on first-degree murder and hate crime charges in the killing of 15-year-old Larry King.

If convicted, McInerney faces 53 years to life in prison.

Opening statements are scheduled for today at a Chatsworth courthouse, where the defense will argue for voluntary manslaughter, saying he was young, immature and provoked.

The conflict between the two boys, who both had troubled upbringings, didn’t seem out-of-place for teens coping with adolescence. There were taunts, teasing and on at least one occasion, a scuffle between Larry and McInerney, who purportedly tried to get others to beat up Larry.

What made the discord different from routine bullying is how Larry stood up for himself.

The day before the shooting on February 12, 2008, one of McInerney’s friends told authorities that Larry uttered the words ‘I love you’ as he passed McInerney in a hallway, according to court documents filed by prosecutors.

The friend said McInerney told him he was ‘going to get a gun and shoot (Larry),’ according to court papers. One of Larry’s friends claimed McInerney told her, ‘Say goodbye to your friend Larry, because you’re never going to see him again.’
Larry King, who was murdered at the E.O. Green School shooting

Larry King, who was murdered at the E.O. Green School shooting

The following day, as the boys sat in a computer lab, McInerney drew a .22-caliber gun from his sweatshirt and shot Larry in the back of the head.

Prosecutor Maeve Fox wrote in court documents McInerney ‘then stood up as Larry collapsed to the floor, looked around at his astonished classmates and delivered a second coup-de-grace shot into the back of Larry’s head.’

White supremacist materials were found in McInerney’s bedroom, including books and drawings of swastikas. McInerney didn’t attend a school field trip to the Museum of Tolerance, the educational arm of the human rights organisation the Simon Wiesenthal Center, court records showed.

At a preliminary hearing last year, a police detective testified that Larry’s sexuality was an affront to McInerney’s ideology, and was probably the motive for the crime.

McInerney has pleaded not guilty to murder, lying in wait and a hate crime.

Defense lawyer Scott Wippert has not returned calls and e-mails seeking comment. Wippert, however, told the Ventura County Star, that Larry sexually harassed McInerney and the shooting was committed in the heat of the moment.

Jurors will likely hear about the rough upbringings of both teens.

Larry, who told some people he was gay, lived at a centre for abused and neglected children in the months before his death. Girls used him as a pawn to clear a table of boys at lunch, according to prosecutors. When Larry asked to sit with them, the boys got up and sometimes called him derogatory names.

McInerney came from an abusive household where his father, William McInerney, was sentenced for battery against his mother in 2000. William McInerney also was accused of shooting her in the elbow several months before his son was born.

He died in March 2009 of blunt-force head trauma at his home. The coroner ruled his death was accidental.
Wippert and co-counsel Robyn Bramson say McInerney client doesn’t deny the killing but that he lacked maturity as a 14-year-old to deal with King’s advances.

Bramson said last week outside the courthouse, where jury selection was underway, he shot King ‘in the heat of passion caused by the intense emotional state between these two boys at school.’

A voluntary manslaughter conviction would prevent a life sentence, making McInerney eligible for release before he’s 40, Wippert said.

A second-degree murder charge would ensure he is imprisoned into his Seventies.

While McInerney will be tried as an adult because of the gravity of the alleged crime, some legal experts said the panel could be more lenient because of his youth.

Tom Lyon, a professor of law and psychology at the University of Southern California, explained: ‘One, they recognize the younger you are, the more likely you are to be rehabilitated. And two, they see more impulsiveness in their actions.’

Larry’s death has roiled gay-rights advocates and parents in Oxnard, a city about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

They wondered why school officials hadn’t done more to stop the harassment toward Larry by students, including McInerney. Larry’s family sued the school district, among two dozen defendants, for failing to protect the teenager.

His death has also gained some resonance around the nation, where vigils have been held in his memory. Thousands of comments were left on internet sites dedicated to him in the weeks following the shooting.

Mr Lyon said the tragedy could foster discussion between adults and children about intolerance.

‘This kind of case is something students can discuss to deal with prejudices and alleviate them,’ he said.

Gucci Mane Still In Jail, To Be Released This Week

July 5th, 2011 | By love not hate

Amid erroneous reports that beleaguered southern rap star Gucci Mane has been freed from prison this holiday weekend, records show that the rapper is still behind bars although he will be released later this week.

Gucci, real name Radric Davis, has been serving time behind bars in Fulton County, Georgia since April on misdemeanor charges of battery alleging he shoved a female passenger from his moving vehicle alongside probation violation charges back in January. After a quick look at the Fulton County Sheriff’s department inmate search site, the records state that Gucci remains in custody. Gucci Mane incurred these most recent charges in DeKalb County while visiting his parole officer.

Gucci Mane’s legal troubles have been not only the fodder for the bulk of his recent musical output but have also marked how turbulent the 31-year MC’s decade long rap career has unfolded as well. Gucci’s run-ins with the law are numerous and his mixtape and street album titles have reflected the rapper’s many arrests and legal snafus. In 2005, Gucci Mane was charged with murder but narrowly escaped the sentence as a result of insufficient evidence from prosecutors. Gucci also has served time on assault and drug charges along with other minor traffic offenses.

These roadblocks have not stopped the virtually untouchable and popular rapper from continuing to keep his name hot in the streets as the prolific rapper dropped his third major label album The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted this past September and his sixth 1017 Brick Squad label street album release The Return of Mr. Zone 6 this past March.

It is not yet known what day Gucci Mane will be freed. Stay tuned as reports develop.

bEYONCE tALKS aBOUT 4 (VIDEO)

June 29th, 2011 | By love not hate

Beyoncé released 4 on Tuesday (June 28), and she’s taking fans behind-the-scenes of her new album in the MTV special “Beyoncé: Year of 4,” set to premiere on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET/PT on MTV and BET, and at 7:30 on VH1 and Palladia (encore presentations will air later on MTV.com, MTV Hits and MTV Jams).

The special was filmed during Beyoncé’s year off, as she set out to discover what she wanted next in her career. It kicks off as B wraps up her I Am Tour, and finds herself at a crossroads before eventually giving into her mother’s advice to take some time off.

“My life was award shows and tour buses and hotels and it kind of goes by so fast … I couldn’t even hear it anymore,” she says of her whirlwind schedule. “I’m just thinking about the next shoot … the next video … the next tour.”

Fans are with Queen B as she travels, hangs out with family, friends and husband Jay-Z, and takes time to reflect on her crazy successful career. “I never even realized I needed a year off,” she later says. “And I never realized I don’t know how to take a year off.”

During this reflective time in her life, Beyoncé also began working on her most eclectic album to date, mixing genres and styles to make 4. The special also takes a look at her career as she takes charge of her business. “It was very risky for me to set out on my own,” she says. “Sometimes we don’t reach for the stars, sometimes we are satisfied with what people tell us we’re supposed to be satisfied with, and I’m just not going for it.”

4, B’s fourth solo album, is a mix of sassy uptempo tracks like the lead single “Run the World (Girls),” soft ballads like “1+1,” as well as sassy midtempo songs like “Best Thing I Never Had.” She worked with producers and artists like The-Dream, Kanye West and Andre 3000 for the release.

“Being able to take viewers behind the creative curtain of one of the world’s most amazing and talented artists, Beyoncé, in the lead-up to her album release is a pure thrill,” Van Toffler, President, MTV Music Group, LOGO and Film, said in a statement. “This honest and intimate special provides her audience and fans a rare opportunity to witness a true, musical genius at work and the stories that defined and inspired her incredible new album.”

Isayah Muller, Stabbed to Death After Graduation

June 29th, 2011 | By love not hate

Isayah Muller, 19, a running back for Truman High School, just left his commencement at the Lehman College whenhe packed into a car with his family tohead to a celebratory dinner at City Island shortly before 4 p.m., cops said.

Soon after they pulled out of the Jerome Ave. parking lot, his father, Andre Muller, noticed some “expensive fragrances missing from the car,” a source said.

The father turned around and drove back to the M.T. Jerome Town Corp. lot to confront the parking attendants about the stolen cologne, a graduation gift to his son, cops and family said.

Once the car was parked, an argument erupted between the elder Muller and the parking attendants, cops said. Suddenly, they began to brawl.

Two attendants pulled out knives during the fight, a relative said. “Neither of them were armed,” said Myrna Valentin, 54, Muller’s grandmother. “[Andre Muller] picked up a shovel and snapped one of them with it and broke his arm.”

Isayah Muller was stabbed twice in the scuffle, once in his side and once in his chest, piercing his heart, sources and family said.

The mortally wounded Muller was rushed back into the family car with his father and girlfriend, and his mother, Rosa. They sped off to a nearby clinic 10 blocks away at 188th St. and Tiebout Ave., cops said.

An ambulance then took Muller to St. St. Barnabas Hospital. The teen died soon later.

Mother sues frat for $25million after her son, 19, was ‘abducted, bound and forced to drink to his death in hazing ritual’

June 29th, 2011 | By love not hate

A mother is suing a fraternity for $25million after its members allegedly killed her 19-year-old son by making him drink until he passed out and then leaving him tied up for hours.

Marie Anfre has launched the wrongful death lawsuit against the Sigma Alpha Epsilon frat after her only son George Desdunes died in the alleged hazing at Cornell University in February.

He died in hospital after he was found unconcious on a sofa in a fraternity flat following a night of drinking – during which he was allegedly kidnapped and taken back to a fraternity house where he was bound with duct tape and zip ties.

Mrs Anfre, from Brooklyn, said members of the fraternity asked her only child a series of questions about the frat, and then forced him to drink if he got them wrong.

Mr Desdunes had already been drinking when he was bundled into a car at 1am on 25 February and taken back to a frat house where the hazing riutal is said to have gone on until 5am.
The biology student was found unconscious on a sofa the next morning by university staff and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead – his blood alcohol level was still five times the legal drink-drive limit.

Frat members are also accused of removing the zip ties binding Mr Desdunes after he was found unconcious but before police arrived to hide the fact that a hazing ritual was involved in his death.

After the death some former pledges of the fraternity were charged with first-degree hazing and unlawfully dealing with a child. They deny the charges.

The fraternity was de-recognised by Cornell University and the chapter suspended by the national Sigma Alpha Epsilon organisation.

Mrs Anfre filed the lawsuit at Brooklyn Supreme Court yesterday.

She said: ‘With the death of my son, I find some comfort in knowing that this lawsuit may bring about changes in fraternities that will prevent other families from suffering as I have.’

Her lawyer Douglas Fieberg said: ‘No person deserves the indignity of being bound and tied at the wrists, then plied with alcohol, rendered unconscious, and left to die as part of some fraternity ritual.

‘George’s death has incited Marie to join the fight against fraternities, their dangerous rituals, and their refusal to stop activities that have killed at least one student every year for the past 40 years.’

Cornell said it ‘neither condones nor tolerates hazing or the type of activities that we understand contributed to George’s death.

‘The matter is now in litigation,’ he added, ‘and we will be following it closely as it progresses through the courts.’

boy, 13, ‘kept in dog cage and beaten to death by parents

June 28th, 2011 | By love not hate

A boy of 13 who died in a dog cage after years of alleged abuse by his parents wrote letters from the squalid prison about how he wanted his life to end.

Christian Choate wrote: ‘I want to die’ on the paper given to him by his stepmother to scribble down how he felt.

In the handwritten notes, he said he simply wanted to be liked by his family in Gary, Indiana – even if they were ‘abusing’ him.

The disturbing letters emerged as child protection authorities admitted to a catalogue of errors in the years before Christian died.

His father was accused of attacking him the year before he took sole custody of the teenager. After that, the alleged abuse only got worse.

Christian’s body was recovered last month from a shallow grave in a trailer park near Gary, Indiana where he once lived with his family.

It is thought he could have been there for two years after his father Riley Choate moved the family away and warned them not to tell anyone what had happened.
