Grand jury WILL NOT indict Tanning Mom

A grand jury in New Jersey has decided to let a woman who became an overnight sensation as ‘the tanning mom’ bronze away in peace.

Prosecutors in Newark said Tuesday a grand jury refused to indict Patricia Krentcil on a charge she took her young daughter into a tanning booth with her. New Jersey state law bans children under 14 from using tanning salons.

‘We presented all the available evidence in the case to the grand jury, both the state’s evidence and the defense’s evidence,’ Assistant Prosecutor Gina Iosim stated in a press release. ‘The grand jurors voted not to indict Mrs. Krentcil. We respect their decision,” she added.

The 44-year-old Nutley woman was arrested last April and charged with second-degree child endangerment for allegedly bringing her then-five-year-old daughter into a tanning booth.

Police became involved after school officials noticed burns on Krentcil’s daughter’s legs. Krentcil said that her daughter’s burn came from staying in the sun in the backyard on an unusually warm day and that she would never take the girl into a tanning booth.

The arrest generated wide publicity partly because of Krentcil’s deep tan and professed love of tanning salons. Her instant fame even extended to a toy company making a ‘tanoerexic’ action figure based on her.

The arrest and subsequent media frenzy also brought unwanted attention to the northern New Jersey tanning salon that Krentcil had frequented, and the salon incurred fines unrelated to the allegation against Krentcil.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Krentcil has been free on $25,000 bail. Her daughter remained in her parents’ custody while the jury deliberated. Prosecutors said the case is now over.

Krentcil was arrested on the morning of April 24, 2012, and charged with child endangerment for allegedly taking her five-year-old daughter, Addison, to City Tropics tanning salon on Centre Street in Nutley.

The 44-year-old has maintained her innocence, claiming that the entire episode was a big misunderstanding.

According to CBS New York, Krentcil said when a school nurse asked her daughter how she got burns on her legs, the girl replied: ‘I go tanning with mommy.’

Following her arrest, the woman explained that she treated her trips to the tanning salon as an errand in which she brought her daughter along, but she insisted that the child had never been exposed to harmful UV rays.

‘It’s like taking your daughter to go food shopping,’ she told NBC News. ‘I tan, she doesn’t tan. I’m in the booth, she’s in the room. That’s all there is to it.’

The grand jury’s decision to clear Krentcil in the case comes just days after the ultra-bronzed woman revealed her plan to escape her ‘living hell’ in New Jersey by moving to rain-soaked London where she plans to launch her own tanning lotion – and resume her favorite pastime.

Krentcil, 44, said her life had become unbearable since she was arrested for allegedly taking her six-year-old daughter to a salon last April, and subsequently banned from tanning beds across the tri-state area.

‘It is almost a year now since I was arrested and, no exaggeration, my life has become a living hell. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat and all I do is cry,’ she said. 

The mother of five, who denies the charges against her, told the UK’s The Sun newspaper she’s struggled to keep it together since being branded the ‘world’s most evil mum’ and has contemplated suicide over the past year.

Her husband, Richard, 47, lost his job on Wall Street and her children, including fair-skinned four-year-old Addison, who sparked the controversy when her teacher noticed burns on her body, have been bullied at school.

She said they no longer wanted to be seen with her because of the abuse hurled at them every time they go out in public and added that her marriage was hanging on by a thread.

But Krentcil, who was spotted dancing provocatively at a New York nightclub earlier this month, wasn’t planning to give up her habit.

She said she was eager to take up tanning again when she gets to England – where rules on sun beds are far more relaxed than they are in the US.

‘I was born to tan,’ she told The Sun. ‘But in the past year I have been banned from tanning salons. Now I have to spend hours covering myself in tanning lotion to get the color I want.’

However Krentcil, who last year was cooking herself up to 20 times a month, told The New York Daily News the move was more about escaping the pandemonium her arrest has caused than finding a tanning salon that would take her business.

‘I could go tanning if I wanted to. I just haven’t,’ she told the newspaper.

She said she loved London and was hoping the move would salvage her family, adding that there was no future for in New Jersey.

Moving overseas was the only way she and her family could find happiness again she said, adding that she is looking forward to being anonymous in the UK where she believes people are more educated and open-minded than they are in the US.

According to The Sun, Krentcil is also planning to launch her own range of tanning products when she touches down.

‘I want to start selling my own tanning lotion there and I’m so excited about finally being able to live my life in peace,’ she told The Sun.

Tanning Mom is facing charges of child endangerment, and if convicted could spend a decade in jail. 

She said as soon as they can, the family will put their home on the market and move to the dreary city.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested on firearm charges at New York’s Laguardia airport

Authorities say an NFL player has been arrested at a New York airport after police found a handgun in his luggage.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da`Quan Bowers Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is expected to appear in court on Monday evening. He posted $10,000 bond.

Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport as he was about to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh in North Carolina.

Authorities say the loaded .40-caliber weapon was found during a search of his carry-on bag.

The charges carry a minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison.

Meris Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney’s office, told USA Today that Bowers did not try to go through security with his Smith & Wesson firearm.

When he got to the check-in counter, he told airline employees he had a gun in his bag, Campbell said.

She did not have any information on Bowers’ reasoning for having the gun in his bag.

Bowers played college football for Clemson University and was chosen by the Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL draft.

Bowers missed the first six games of the 2012 season with a torn Achilles tendon but returned in time to play in 10 games and record three sacks last season.

The Buccaneers released a statement reading: ‘We are aware of the situation and are gathering information. We will withhold comment until we know all the facts.’

The NFL will also review the matter. League spokesman Greg Aiello said: ‘It will be reviewed under our league policies.’

Former Giants star Plaxico Burress was arrested on the same charge after he accidentally shot himself in 2008.

Burress, whose gun was tucked into his jeans and shot him in the thigh in a Manhattan night club, later accepted a plea deal to a lesser charge (attempted criminal possession of a weapon) and served 20 months in prison.

Grammy Awards dress code

A wardrobe advisory sent by CBS to Grammy attendees this week had members of the press screaming for joy.

It’s not often they get to talk about “bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks” and “bare sides or under curvature of the breasts” under the guise of “breaking news.”

But that, and lots more where that came from, is included in the network’s “Wardrobe Advisory” first leaked to Web site Deadline.com by a snippy source who complained, “I assume that my lovely colleagues do not get this same email for the Oscars.”

Well, of course not, Pookie. But when was the last time you saw Helen Mirren in a bedazzled turquoise thong-onsie with Imelda Marcos sleeves and Tinkerbell wings, like Lady Gaga wore to perform at the 2010 Grammys — or Meryl Streep in a purple pastie, like the one Lil’ Kim wore to the 1999 VMA’s?

But if you’re worried that CBS’s memo is going to wreck your Grammy-viewing fun on Sunday, rest easy.

CBS says that it sent the same fashion-guidance memo last year before it broadcast the live music-industry trophy show.

And last year at the Grammys — when not mourning the previously night’s death of Whitney Houston — Fergie was posing in black bra and briefs under a bright orange see-through lace Jean Paul Gaultier gown. Which apparently got a thumbs-up from the CBS Grammy Decency Police.

That said, there’s no doubt that the press will critique this year’s Grammys outfits against CBS’s leaked dress-code memo, in which “thong type costumes are problematic,” and “foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared.”

Kylie Minogue signs with Jay-z

(Reuters) – Australian Grammy-award winning singer Kylie Minogue, whose hits include “Come Into My World,” moved to rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation music label, the company said on its website.

Minogue left British label EMI, which had been taken over by Universal, last year and parted with her longtime manager, Terry Blamey, last month after 25 years together.

She joins Rihanna, Shakira, MIA and other artists at the New York-based entertainment company which will increase her presence in the United States. Jay-Z created the company in 2008 with ticketing and promotional business Live Nation.

“We would like to welcome Aussie singer, recording artist, songwriter, actress and designer Kylie Minogue to the Roc Nation family!” the company said on its website.

Minogue, who survived breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2005, will appear with Timbaland at a benefit concert presented by Roc Nation and Three Six Zero, the London-based music management company, after the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

During her 25-year career she has released 11 studio albums, two live CDs, eight live concert DVDs, a greatest hits double album and multiple video packages, according to Roc Nation.

She also had 50 hit singles and has sold 68 million albums worldwide.

Astonishing arsenal of guns collected by cops

Deeply affected by the massacre at Sandy Hook, gun owners in Camden, New Jersey, America’s deadliest town, turned in a record number of weapons in a buy back scheme over the weekend.

1,137 firearms including an elephant-gun were handed in on Friday and Saturday at two churches in the crime-plagued town as the ramifications of the mass child killings in Connecticut seemed to inspire residents to give up their arms.

‘We heard that there were a number of gun owners on Saturday who had publicly said, in light of the situation that had just occurred in Connecticut, they wanted to turn in their weapons,’ Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for the Camden police, said in an interview with Philly.Com

NJ.com reported that those who came to the event were paid up to $250 per weapon with ‘no questions asked.’

Gun owners received $25 for BB guns, $50 inoperable firearms, $150 for revolvers, semi automatics, shotguns and rifles and $250 for assault weapons.

Nearly all of the weapons are to be destroyed.

‘The more we unarm ourselves then maybe we can stop some of the violence that’s going on. If we don’t have the firearm then we can’t use the firearm,’ said James Green, who turned over his firearm.

The shooting at a Newtown elementary school on Friday left 26 people dead, including 20 children, ages 6 and 7.

The gunman, Adam Lanza, used a Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle in the killings, and used a handgun to kill himself as police officers closed in.

Twice as many firearms were turned in Saturday, the day after, than on Friday, Chiesa noted.

‘These guns are coming from people’s homes and many times end up as items of burglary, end up on our streets and in the wrong hands. We would much rather have custody of these guns now as opposed to at the scene of a crime after a shooting,’ said Chief Scott Thomas, Camden Police.

It wasn’t just the criminals handing in guns in Camden – law abiding members of the public were bringing in their guns to rid their homes of their firearms.

‘I don’t want them around the house anymore so I brought them here,’ said Henry Budniak.

Officials have said there are about 170 drug markets operating in Camden, a city of 77,000 near Philadelphia, more than 700 people on parole and 600 registered sex offenders.

The city ranks first in violent crime, according to the FBI. It also leads the country in murders for cities of more than 50,000 people.

The murder rate is unthinkably high. In 2007, Newark attracted national attention for a record number of homicides.

Some residents, interviewed Friday, said they turned in guns simply because they no longer wanted them in their homes. One man said he would use the $400 he received to buy Christmas gifts.

Police officer ‘body slamming girl, 15, to the ground’ during street fight (video)

A startling video captures the moment a  police officer apparently body slammed a 15-year-old girl to the ground during a  street fight.

Police in Arlington, Texas are now  investigating whether the force used by the unnamed officer was too  extreme.

The incident was caught on a mobile phone  camera after a venue kicked out teenagers for fighting, and their brawl  escalated in the street.

The party, at 1010 Collins, had been closed  down by the hall’s owner around midnight.

‘The teenage party got out of control because  of the children,’ Edna Tijerina, general  manager, told CBS.

‘They got in a couple of fights. At that  point, our staff did follow protocol. What we did was stop the party and told  everybody to go home.’

The fights then spread to the parking lot  outside of the hall, where police arrived to ‘de-escalate the crowds and the  fights’.

Amid the ruckus, a police officer apparently forcibly grabbed the teen girl as she ran away, raised her off the ground and slammed her to the floor.

As the crowd shouted obscenities at him, he  pinned her to the ground and handcuffed her, as other police officers gathered  on the scene.

The girl was arrested for fighting in public  along with four others. She was taken into custody but later released to her  parents, CBS reported.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the  Arlington Police Department said they would be investigating the officer’s  actions.

‘Several fights began to break out after a  promoter ended the party close to midnight,’ it read. ‘Officers attempted to  de-escalate… the fights.

‘Anytime an APD Officer uses force on a  person, there is a multi-layer, impartial administrative review that occurs to  review the force used.

‘This review will be conducted to determine  if the level of force was reasonable as compared to the level of  resistance.’

Police asked the public not to make a snap  judgment about the video and appealed for any other footage to help them in  their investigation.

‘What we look at: Was there force used? Was  it reasonable, based upon the resistance that was being encountered?’ Sgt. Chris Cook said.

‘We can’t see in the video what happened  before. We know what the officer said happened, but that’s under  investigation.’

The officer has now been assigned to traffic  duty while the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Usher are set to perform. And Whitney Houston’s mother is part of a tribute for the late superstar that will include other singers.

Jamie Foxx, Quentin Tarantino and Tyler Perry will present awards. Samuel L. Jackson will host the show, which will be held Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

R Kelly owes 5 Million in taxes!!!

R. Kelly reportedly owes $4.8 million in back taxes.

The ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ singer is said to have not paid anything on his earnings from 2005, according to documents filed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

He owes $1,472,366.77 from 2005, $710,520.51 from 2006,

$376,180.11 from 2007, $1,122,694.90 from 2008, $173,815.18 from 2009 and $992,495.24 from 2010, bringing his grand total to $4,848,072.71.

Despite the huge bill, the singer is ‘confident’ the matter can be resolved.

His spokesman told gossip website TMZ.com: ‘R. Kelly is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied.’

Meanwhile, Kelly will headline the Reggae Sumfest next month in Montego Bay, which takes place from July 15 – 21.

He had been due to perform at last year’s Reggae Sumfest but had to pull out after complaining of throat pain and later having an emergency operation on his throat.

Sumfest organiser, Johnny Gourzong, said: ‘R. Kelly was so disappointed with not being able to come to Sumfest last year that we spent the whole year trying to work out a make-up date, which was Reggae Sumfest 2012.’

Chris Brown Skates Into LAX

Chris Brown made his way through security at LAX with skateboard in hand as he caught a flight to Canada to rehearse for his “F.A.M.E.” tour. Dressed casually in a Nike windbreaker, gray sweats, and red adidas sneakers, the tatted singer appeared in good spirits as he underwent a body scan. His girlfriend Karrueche Tran and friend Mijo were among his entourage.

Breezy will kick off his first North American trek in three years with Kelly Rowland, T-Pain, and Tyga on Monday in Toronto, making stops in Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, before winding down on October 30.

In related news, TMZ reports that 95 out of the 117 parking tickets he was issued have been dismissed.

Lady Gaga Denies Exploiting LGBT

Lady Gaga and the gay community are closely linked for a variety of reasons, but has the pop star been exploiting her LGBT fans to sell records?

She’s been criticized for this lately, but calls it a “ridiculous” claim.

“My love for my gay fans is just pure, authentic love for them as supporters of me from the beginning, and me feeling connected to their struggles as someone who is a part of their fight,” Gaga tells The Advocate.

Gaga considers herself a member of the LGBT community (the B part) and says anyone claiming she’s using it to help bolster sales is absurd.

“To say that I would use the gay community to sell records is probably one of the most ridiculous statements anyone can make about me,” she says – and we’re all familiar now with the Lady Gaga hermaphrodite rumors.

“The top thing I think about every single day, other than my fans, loving the music, and my family being healthy, is social justice and equality.”

She recalls a recent interaction she had with a young gay man in the military who told her that America’s fight for equality has given him hope.

He gave her his service jacket as a symbol of his thanks.

“We just held each other and cried,” the superstar says. “Anyone who says that I’m not genuine is not interested in overcoming this fight.”

“That was such a pure and wonderful moment. I remember thinking, ‘There’s no album sale, no Number 1, that could compete with this.”

“That is what the f**k it’s all about right there. What the f**k it’s all about is if I can write one song that could change one person’s life.”

Gaga, who is currently in Tawian promoting her Born This Way album, also touches upon the true meaning behind the hit title track:

“‘Born This Way’ is not about just being born in one moment; it’s about being reborn over and over again until you become that unique, special person inside you that is the most brave, the most sure and the most ready to take on the world.”

“And I was born this way. And that’s who I am. Some people weren’t born to wear masks, but I was. I was born to wear masks and wigs and fashion.”

“To express myself through my clothing and my performance art, and that’s who I am,” she adds. “And the song is meant to be liberating not only from an individual perspective but from a creative perspective.”

Curvy Amber Rose hits the beach in tight sportswear… but it’s all for the cameras

Never one to shy away from the cameras, Amber Rose hit the beach in a neon sports bra and curve-hugging grey leggings.

The model left little to the imagination as she flaunted her midriff and had an ample cleavage on display; she also showed off a large rose tattoo on her right arm.

Despite dressing down in sportswear to play volleyball, Amber caked on a thick layer of make-up and wore a pair of sparkly diamond studs.

Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend spent the day larking about on the Santa Monica sand as a camera crew followed her around to shoot her new reality show.

The 28-year-old has mastered the art of extending her 15 minutes of fame by being the subject of a fly-on-the-wall show for VH1.

The programme, Behind Her Shades, will follow Amber as she embarks on a business venture to open her Sunglasses store later this year.

She said: ‘You’ll see the process that I have to go through in order to get it (the shop)…it’s not really easy to get a store and get people to come.

‘My show is going be an open book of my life, my family and my businesses and it’s called Behind Her Shades because usually I have shades on and it’s everything that’s behind them that people don’t know about, but they’ll learn.’
Despite her high-profile relationship with the Gold Digger rapper, Amber did carve a path for herself in the industry on her own merit with a modelling contract with Ford Models.

However, she was later dropped – although she claims the contract came to an end – and has had a distinct lack of catwalk success with her new employers CAA.

At the time, she Tweeted: ‘I did NOT get dropped from Ford Models my contract was up. Now I’m with CAA. Don’t believe everything you read.’

Meanwhile, Amber has taken to the social networking site again this week to encourage followers to visit her during an appearance at Millions of Milkshakes today.

Lindsay Lohan tried a similar venture with the US chain during her flagging popularity, which didn’t exactly boost her career.

Suge Knight Casino BRAWL — Caught on Tape!!

Suge Knight got into a full contact FIST FIGHT with another man at a Las Vegas casino this weekend — unleashing the fury on a man half his size … and TMZ has the footage.

It all went down on the casino floor at the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas early Saturday morning. Suge can be seen throwing haymaker after haymaker … but it doesn’t look like he landed a single punch.

According to an eyewitness … Suge flew off the handle when the little man approached him with a challenge … saying, “I can take you.”

Eventually, the whole thing was broken up — and cops were spotted at the hotel soon after. We’re told Suge was not arrested over the incident.

A rep for Aria tells us, “Due to guest privacy policies, I am unable to confirm information about guest activities in our hotel.”

Allen Iverson’s Six-Bedroom Home Foreclosed

Allen Iverson, a former National Basketball Association most valuable player and 11-time All- Star, has stopped paying the mortgage on his 6,848-square-foot house in Cherry Hills, Colorado, the Denver Post reported.

Iverson, 35, who purchased the property in 2008 for $3.88 million, let the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home slip into foreclosure and owes more than $2.5 million to Wells Fargo Bank, the Post reported, citing a Notice of Election and Demand for Sale filed in Colorado’s Arapahoe County on Feb. 28.

The house was for sale and scheduled to close for about the asking price of $2.85 million, according to the newspaper. Though the sale is allowed to continue, Iverson may be forced to pay attorney fees, foreclosure costs and default interest, real estate attorney Alan D. Sweetbaum told the Post.

Iverson, who won the 2000-01 NBA MVP award, played for four NBA teams in his 14-year career. He played for the Denver Nuggets in 2006 to 2008. In October, he agreed to a two-year, $4 million contract with the Turkish basketball club Besiktas.

Just a few days after Rihanna downgraded her restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Brown debuted new blonde locks in a Twitter photo he posted of himself on Sunday.

“Look at me now,” he captioned the pic.

Hours later, the R&B star seemed shocked that his makeover would be news the media would eat up.

“It’s crazy how me changing my hair makes CNN!!” he posted. “Isn’t there more important news!! Just proved my point!!!”
