Mark Metcalfe/Getty Images Entertainment . BET have announced the nominees for the 2012 BET Awards show and they also confirmed that Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj will perform at the extravaganza which takes places in Los Angeles on July 1st.
. BET’s president Stephen Hill held a press conference in New York City on Tuesday alongside Big Sean, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Diggy Simmons, Mindless Behavior and Melanie Fiona where he announced the details of the show. The host Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t there but he did sent a pre-taped message claiming the awards program was “too big to miss.” . Predictably Kanye West leads the nominations list with seven while Beyonce came in strong with six nominations and Jay-Z gained five of them. Big Sean, who earned three nominations, will go up against Drake, J.Cole, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy in the Best Male Hip Hop category. . “It’s perfect. My grandma gonna be watchin’, my mom, my family, the whole city,” Sean told MTV following the press conference. “It’s just tight that I can represent those people, everybody who had that dream, everybody who used to ride to school [listening to] their idols, now I’m with them. It’s just tight that I can show people that it’s possible.”
What do Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Joe Jonas have in common? Well, aside from being internationally renowned pop stars, all three are involved in a new campaign Pepsi has just launched. “Live for Now” focuses on the motto “carpe diem” and celebrates spontaneity through events, digital marketing and, of course, musical partnerships.
For Jonas, the opportunity to spread that message fits with his own philosophy about living life to the fullest. “It’s, I think, a good match. A lot of stuff that I love to do is spontaneous, last minute and living in the moment,” he explained to MTV News. “And what better way to encourage people and my fans to be able to live in the moment? ‘Live for Now’ is tweeting about it and getting them involved.”
As for being the face of the campaign alongside Perry and Minaj (whose Pepsi ads already debuted), well, for Joe, that was icing on the cake. “I’m in great company: Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, more people to come, it’s an incredible little circle right now,” he explained.
“So, hopefully, we’ll all be able to do something together one day. But, as for now, just being able to do it individually and encourage their fans, my fans to get out there, or whomever, and be able to send in their little videos or pictures of them doing things that are in the moment.”
And, he added, those moments can be big or small. “I love being able to travel, take trips,” he said. “I called my buddies up. I literally called one of my best friends [brother-in-law Mikey Deleasa], he showed up to my house in New York, and I’m like, ‘Hey, what are you doing tomorrow? Let’s go to Vegas. Let’s do it!’ We had an incredible trip. We went to the Mayweather fight, and living in the moment and having a good time.
“But, if you can’t take Vegas trips on the weekend, there’s amazing things to do probably in your area,” he added. “Or, a road trip with your friends is always great.”
Earlier this month, Pepsi announced that Michael Jackson, who struck a deal with the brand in 1984, will be featured on Pepsi cans as a part of the campaign. The cans arrive Stateside later this month.
Nicki Minaj will make her debut as the face of the new Pepsi beverage, “Pop,” when her first commercial airs Monday. The commercial, titled “Now in the Moment” features a freshly remixed version of Minaj’s hit “Moment for Life” and will be part of Pepsi’s global campaign “Live For Now.” In a still from the commercial, Minaj is showing off her fierce fashion sporting a pinked-out futuristic dress and matching tresses.
“Live For Now” is a recently launched campaign which invites consumers to live each moment to the fullest through music and entertainment. Nicki is joined by fellow female superstar in the music biz, Katy Perry, for the new ad campaign. Pepsi announced this week that Perry would join “Live For Now” and that they will be partnering with Perry to promote her upcoming concert movie “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D” which hits theaters July 5th.
Pepsi also struck a deal with Michael Jackson’s estate to feature footage of the King of Pop in the new “Live For Now” ads, AP reports. Pepsi fans in the United States and China will be the first to see the new ads, which are timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of MJ’s hit Bad. The campaign will feature Michael Jackson Pepsi cans and chances for fans to win Jackson-inspired leather jackets.

The Barbz have gone mad. On Sunday (April 15), Nicki Minaj deactivated her Twitter account leaving millions of her fans and followers awaiting her comeback– but that may not happen. After getting into a Twitter tiff with some of her followers, Nicki pulled the plug on her account. “Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f–king bye,” she wrote. before vanishing from the social networking site.
Minutes before, Nicki had vowed to get rid of the account after she blocked a fan site that she accused of posting leaked music. DJLaz1.com (part of the Complex Network) managed to capture some screen grabs.
The offending site, NickiDaily.com is also down, stripped of all of it’s content with only the word “closed” posted. Instead of their Barbie-related content, the site just plays the somber sounding “Dear Old Nicki” in a loop. The track which appeared on Minaj’s 2010 debut is rather appropriate. On it she raps to her former self: “And tell me that you coming back that you just took a break/Maybe I blamed you for everything, that was my mistake.”
Whether NickiDaily was the exact reason that the Young Money star deleted her Twitter is unclear. There are few artists who have a closer relationship with her fans than Nicki, and fewer artists who are as big as her on Twitter. Last week the Harajuku Barbie landed the #1 album in the country with her sophomore effort Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded after selling 253,000 copies in its first week.
It was a mixed bag of reactions on Twitter:
“Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good fucking bye.”
“And that’s exactly why I’m paying the barbz DUST right now! And deleting my twitter. Smdh – don’t cry 4 me argentina.”

Dressed in a colorful tutu and sporting blue cotton candy-like hair, Minaj took in the runway scene, which included sequined mini-dresses, floral prints and, of course, a whole lot of leopard. MTV News caught up with the rapper just moments before the show began and she told us what it was like to meet her fashion icon.
“She’s a free spirit,” Minaj said of Johnson. “When I met her the other day, I felt like I knew her for my whole life. She’s so warm and considerate and caring. She’s amazingly talented and I’ve been wearing her clothes forever, so to meet her was like, ‘Yay!’ [I was] bowing down to her; she’s dope!”
The affection was mutual. Backstage at Johnson’s show — which featured a DJ, cupcakes, balloons and posters of Minaj with Johnson’s face on them — the designer revealed that this line couldn’t have been created without the hip-hop star.
“I was watching Nicki Minaj and my daughter Lulu, and I’m thinking, ‘They are the body type,’ ” Johnson said of making the looks for her spring line. “I love [Nicki] and she really wears my stuff. She likes real tight; she’s just my most, most, most favorite girl right now.”
So how does it feel to be Betsey Johnson’s muse?
“I just think it’s amazing,” Minaj told us. “I remember I was living in Queens and I couldn’t afford Betsey, so I would, like, window-shop by her store and then I would go to the cheaper places. She had a Nicki Minaj [inspiration] board in her office, and it was so many pictures and wigs and all these things and clippings that she took of me and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ It was so emotional.”
Nicki Minaj has been fined for swearing during a performance in Jamaica. The rapper and singer broke the law with her profanity-laden set, prompting a court appearance and a tiny fine.
It was Minaj’s first time performing in Jamaica, a country that strongly enforces anti-profanity laws at concerts. After headlining the final night at Montego Bay’s Reggae Sumfest, Minaj was reportedly approached by Jamaican police and told she had violated the Towns and Communities Act, which dates from British colonial times and penalises “obscenity in a public place”. She was issued a court summons for 28 July.
Minaj never appeared. Instead, a local lawyer entered a guilty plea on her behalf. The singer was ordered to pay a fine of 1,000 Jamaican dollars – equivalent to just £7. On Twitter, Minaj joked about the incident: “I swear I just had the time of my life,” she wrote.
In the Jamaican press, some journalists wondered whether local artists would have been shown the same leniency as Minaj. “[What] would have happened had those same expletives come from the lips of our own Jamaican performers?” asked the Jamaica Observer. Earlier in the festival, singjay I-Octane apparently told the crowd he had been warned not to perform his marijuana anthem Puff It. In a more serious incident in 2005, reggae artist Sizzla spent two weeks in prison after singing about killing gay men.
