50 names his dog after OPRAH!

June 11th, 2012 | By love not hate

50 Cent

50 Cent and Oprah put their differences aside on “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”  In another preview from tonight’s episode, the platinum rapper tells Oprah why he named his Miniature Schnauzer after her.

“You know when they say a dog is a man’s best friend?” asked an embarrassed Fif, who also has a cat named after Oprah’s best friend Gayle.

“At the time, I was just looking at the situation and I was developing negative feelings for someone who doesn’t even know me,” he explained.  “I gave it to the dog ’cause I was excited about the dog at the time.”

But he has grown fond of the dog and Oprah throughout the years.  “I take pictures and say crazy stuff on Twitter, but it would impact because they would associate it with me saying it to you.”

He also admits to being in love during the interview, which airs tonight at 9 p.m. on OWN.

Oprah’s Publicist Quit’s

August 12th, 2011 | By love not hate

This week Oprah Winfrey’s publicist Lisa Halliday quit her! However, while I’m sure your waiting to hear about the beef between the two, we have to tell you: THERE IS NONE! Her publicist simply decided to move back to Los Angeles. A lot of sources have been saying that Oprah wanted Ms. Halliday to stay in Chicago to help with Rosie O’Donnell’s new talk show that will be on OWN. However, Lisa has come forward and has stated that all of this mess with her staying in Chicago to help with Rosie’s show is nothing but false rumors. She even said that Oprah “has been nothing but supportive of my decision to move back to Los Angeles. We did not have a falling-out.” Interesting. I wonder what’s in LA that would make her quit working for Oprah of all people. It’s gotta be something pretty important OR she’s lying about there not being any beef between her and Big O. What do you think are the motives behind Oprah’s publicist suddenly quitting and moving to LA? Do you believe that statements that Lisa Halliday has put out?

Oprah

May 25th, 2011 | By love not hate

Before the stage went dark on her long-running talk show Wednesday, Oprah Winfrey still had a few more lessons to share.

Instead of inviting one last super-special guest to appear, giving away a car or doing one more incredible makeover, Winfrey opted to take the finale of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” back to basics: It was just Oprah, giving what she called “a love letter” to her audience.

“This last hour is about me saying thank you; it is my love letter to you,” she said. “I want to leave you all with the lessons that anchor my life. Every day that I stood here I knew that this was exactly where I was supposed to be. There was many a day I came to work tired, but I showed up because I knew that you were waiting, you were waiting for whatever we had to offer. That’s why I never missed a day in 25 years.”

Over the course of 60 minutes Wednesday, Winfrey inspired laughter, but it’s also fair to say that she simply felt the need to inspire. The 57-year-old media mogul told her viewers she hoped they would take what she’s given them and turn their everyday lives into their own personal stage, to realize they also have the power to affect and change lives.

“Everyone has a calling, and your real job in life is to figure out what that is and get about the business of doing it,” she said. “You have to know what sparks the light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world. … Wherever you are, that’s your stage, your circle of influence. That’s your talk show, that’s where your power lies. … You have the power to change somebody’s life.”

The other lesson the show has taught her, she said, is how important it is to grasp the concept of your own worth. “The show has taught me that there’s a common thread that runs through all of our pain and suffering: unworthiness,” Winfrey said. “We can all block our own blessings because we don’t feel inherently good enough or smart enough or pretty enough. The show has taught me that you’re worthy because you were born and you are here. You’re being here, and being alive, makes you worthy. You alone are enough.”

And, of course, if you want to still hear from Oprah, you can. She said during the finale that her new e-mail address is oprah@oprah.com. “It’s the personal e-mail account for all of you,” Winfrey said, adding if there’s something in your inbox from that address, it’s from her directly. “I want you to know that what you have to say matters to me.”

In the end, Winfrey said her departure isn’t bittersweet, but rather “all sweet and no bitter.”

“Every single day I came down from my makeup room, I’d offer a prayer of gratitude for the opportunity to have done this work. To be embraced by all of you, it’s one of the greatest honors a human being can have,” she said.

“Many of us have been together for 25 years. … So I thank you all for your support and trust in me. I thank you for tuning in every day. … I won’t say goodbye, I’ll just say, ‘Until we meet again.’ ”

Who will replace OPRAH

May 19th, 2011 | By love not hate

CNN) — The daytime television landscape is about to look very different after the reigning queen of talk packs it in on May 25.

After 25 years that have seen Winfrey evolve from a talk show host to a pop culture icon, she has decided to stop the machine that has made her so influential.

The move has not only left her loyal fans in mourning mode, but has also resulted in a bit of speculation of who, if anyone, can fill the void.

Some already have a leg up on the competition.

“I’ve spent seven to eight years training at Oprah University,” joked Mehmet “Dr. Oz” Oz, a Winfrey protégée whose show will upgrade to 83 time slots and stations where “The Oprah Winfrey Show” had aired. “I spent less time in med school.”

Oz added that he is grateful for the opportunity to take over Winfrey’s time slot, which is among the most sought-after on-air real estate in TV land.

Amid the loss of “The O” comes the very real business of local stations having to strategize and determine how to designate the golden hour once filled by Oprah, who with her millions of viewers offered an attractive lead-in to whatever program followed her.

“The rush is not surprising,” said Larry Gerbrandt, a media research analyst who is a principal with Media Valuation Partners. “Due to the program’s long-term success over time, Oprah had eventually wound up on the strongest local stations in the country … the most desirable time slots. In many markets, these time slots have not been available for decades.”

There is no shortage of those wishing to be Winfrey’s industry heir.

Along with already existing talk shows from the likes of Dr. Oz, Ellen DeGeneres and another Winfrey-created star, Phil “Dr. Phil” McGraw, new shows will be debuting from CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and former talk show host Ricki Lake.

Of course, those are just the confirmed players in the race. There has been plenty of buzz surrounding other bold names that are considering a run for the time slot.

Journalist Katie Couric is reportedly in talks to helm a daytime talk show after her contract with CBS News expires, and even reality TV star Bethenny Frankel has been rumored to be pursuing a spot at the Oprah-less table. (Frankel has declined to comment on reports, though she has been quoted as saying she would like to have a daytime talk show.)

Even former “The View” co-host Rosie O’Donnell will be aiming for some of Oprah’s audience, albeit not via broadcast. O’Donnell, whose former talk show “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” ended its run in 2002, landed a new show on Winfrey’s cable network, OWN, and will be filming in the same Chicago studio where Winfrey produced her show.

Bill Carroll, vice president and director of programming at Katz Television Group, told Media Life Magazine that Oprah’s size-10 pumps will be hard to fill, though “all the shows at 4 p.m. [Winfrey's show airs at 4 p.m. in many markets across the country] are going to gain because we’re going to have a redistribution.”

“I don’t think anyone can predict with certainty who will be the biggest winner; the audience will make that judgment,” he said. “If you look at the show that is probably in order, I think most guess that — an in many markets she’s already there, and will move up in others — ‘Ellen’ is probably the show most believe will at least get sampled by Oprah viewers. And obviously, Oprah loyalists will check out ‘Dr. Oz.’ ”

Oz first appeared as a health expert on Winfrey’s show in 2004 before she spun him off in his own syndicated show in 2009. In total across the country, “The Dr. Oz Show” will be on 150 stations as a 4 p.m. news lead-in, which he said will be more than all competitors combined following Winfrey’s departure.

He said he takes very seriously the mantle Winfrey is passing on.

“Really, her legacy is the people who she’s left who she’s trained, and I’m blessed to be in that group,” Oz said. “What you gain more than anything else is the trust of her audience. If you are going to love people, you have to give them all the news straight up and do what’s best for them. She has done that throughout 25 years, and I have pledged to always make her proud of me by always doing the same.”

Gerbrandt, who in addition to being a media analyst for more than 25 years has written frequently for publications like The Hollywood Reporter, said Winfrey’s departure could benefit others in the wings.

“Clearly, existing shows such as ‘Dr. Oz’ and ‘Dr. Phil,’ along with all the other talkers, would like to improve their time periods and carriage,” he said. “It does leave an opening for a brand-new entrant, such as a Katie Couric, to come in at the top and not have to battle her way to the best time periods and stations over a number of seasons, though Couric’s tarnished star will require some serious burnishing after failing to improve CBS’ ‘Evening News’ rankings.”

Some stations, like CNN affiliate WSB in Atlanta, are opting to fill the hour with a newscast instead of trying to duplicate Winfrey’s talk show success.

“We felt that this was the right time to start the additional newscast,” Bill Hoffman, vice president and general manager of WSB-TV, said during an April staff meeting. “Oprah says goodbye to Atlanta and the nation on Wednesday. It only makes sense to begin serving our viewers and the community with fresh news and information the very next day instead of airing a summer full of Oprah reruns.”

Karen Taylor Bass, a public relations expert and host of Black Enterprise’s Web series “Brand New You,” managed to score some prime tickets to one of Winfrey’s final shows.

Taylor Bass said she believes that if television executives had anyone they truly believed could succeed Winfrey, that person would have already been groomed and identified as such.

“It’s going to be hard to replicate brand Oprah,” she said. “She really connected with the everyday person with everything from the weight battle to her success. She has that personal connection with her audience in that you feel like you are invited to her couch every day, and that took time to evolve.”

Oz said any competitors will have to “earn their stripes,” as fans are so loyal to Winfrey and used to her positive energy. He said he looks forward to leading into the news, as his show is a mix of entertainment and news, so he believes it will be a natural flow from one to the other.

As he headed out to tape his 63rd and final appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Oz said he too will miss having her on air daily, though he admires how she is choosing to leave.

“I’m very proud of her,” he said. “It’s a very brave thing to do, at the top of your game to realize that you can contribute more in other places.”

“We’ve lost a friend next to us in the daytime lineup, but I know she’s destined for greater things.”

Duchess Fergie: Wedding Rejection

May 11th, 2011 | By love not hate

When you make headlines for not being invited to the Royal Wedding – especially when your children and ex-husband are – someone is bound to ask what you did instead.

Which is precisely what Oprah Winfrey inquired of Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The talk-show host’s precise words: “Were you invited or were you not?”

“I was not invited, and I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia and … the jungle embraced me,” Fergie, 51, responds, in an interview taped Friday and set to air on Wednesday’s The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The Duchess of York, who is divorced from Prince William’s uncle, Prince Andrew, described the snub as “so difficult. Because I wanted to be there with my girls and … to be getting them dressed and to go as a family. And also it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me.”

Those “girls” are daughters Princess Beatrice, 22, and Princess Eugenie, who sported much-discussed hats to the Westminster Abbey ceremony.

“In fact,” says Fergie, “when Andrew went with the girls, we were talking all morning and he was saying, it’s okay. Just remember we had such a good day. Our wedding was so perfect.”

The rejection had a particularly shattering effect, she admits, “because we’re such a unit together. He made me feel very part of the day on April the 29th.”

Fergie also touches upon the spirit of the groom and Prince Harry’s mother. “I think Diana would be so proud of her son,” she says. “And – both of them, you know? They did a great job. And I really love the feeling that sort of Diana and I both weren’t there. But I’m here to say how proud she would have been, and Kate looked utterly beautiful.

Returning – at Winfrey’s suggestion – to the feelings of rejection by the Royal Family, Ferguson says, “I think what I felt was that I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and that [it] was quite right they didn’t invite me. Why would they?”

In 2010, Ferguson was caught on camera accepting money in exchange for a promise of business access to her ex-husband.

“Did you feel ostracized by them?” Winfrey asks bluntly.

“No, not ostracized,” Fergie answers. “I felt that I ostracized myself by my behavior, by the past, by living with all the regrets of my mistakes, that I sort of wore a hair shirt and beat myself up most of the day thinking and regretting why did I make such a mistake? Why have I made so many mistakes? So I did spend a good three hours on that.”

Family Member Says: “I Was Terrified Of Oprah”

March 3rd, 2011 | By love not hate

Gawker recently published an excerpt of an interview by Oprah’s first cousin Jo Baldwin, who’s story appears in the new paper back book ‘Oprah: A Biography‘, revealing some bombshell revelations about Oprah’s personal life.

In the interview Baldwin reveals that when she graduated from college, Oprah hired her as a speechwriter, only to fire her unexpectedly two years into her three year contract. Baldwin claims that she was fired for talking about her faith in Jesus to much, as Oprah herself prefers the teachings of Shirley MacLaine. She goes on to note that not even Oprah’s own mother has her cell phone number, and needs to contact her producers if she wishes to speak to her daughter, as Oprah prefers the company of her high-powered celebrity friends.

Baldwin claims that the Winfrey family is ‘tangled with so many secrets and so much fear…I admit I was afraid of Oprah for 20 years. Absolutely terrified. She’s powerful and dangerous. She told me if I ever opened my mouth [about what I know] she’d sue my pants off.’ But she then notes that the family still hang around for the lavish gifts and checks that Oprah has been known to bestow upon the family.

Hmmm… I don’t know whether I believe it or not, but one thing I do know is that if my family were only hanging around for money and gifts, I probably wouldn’t associate with them either.

The biography by Kitty Kelley is available now.

Dead Body Of Newborn Found At Oprah’s South African School

February 21st, 2011 | By love not hate

Another scandal has struck the South African girls school founded by daytime talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. The body of a newborn baby was found in a bag belonging to a teenage student. A 17-year-old student at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls gave birth to a child this week and disposed of the body at the school, located 25 miles south of Johannesburg. According to the Afrikaans-language newspaper Beeld, the dead newborn was found in a plastic bag filled with bloodied clothes. The young woman handed the bag containing the infant over to hospital staff after she was admitted with excessive bleeding last week.

Police are not sure if the newborn was killed or died of natural causes.

“Yes, the girl gave birth to the baby at the school, but we can”t confirm what happened to it. A case of concealment of death is being investigated,” News quoted police captain Shado Mashobane as telling local daily The Times.

Oprah’s OWN Network Ratings Fall Within First Week

January 8th, 2011 | By love not hate

Oprah Winfrey’s new cable network OWN is having some early growing pains. After exploding out of the gate in the ratings, viewership has declined significantly.

While OWN’s premiere averaged 1 million primetime viewers last weekend, Sunday dropped to 822,000. Monday fell to 394,000, followed by Tuesday hitting 315,000.

After a heavy curiosity-driven tune-in, such a steep decline isn’t really all that surprising. Cable networks have historically launched soft and quiet, gathering viewers gradually over a period of years. It’s OWN’s strong debut that remains truly unusual here, and proves there’s plenty of viewer interest in the channel.

OWN CEO Christina Norman points out that the network is just getting started.

“Launch is only the beginning for us,” she says. “Our goal was to double Discovery Health Channel’s ratings and move from a network ranked in the 40s to a network ranked in the 20s. So far we’re meeting those figures.”
