Diana Ross Avoiding Tyler Perry

June 28th, 2012 | By

Tyler Perry has hit a roadblock in his pursuit of movie making.
The filmmaker expressed interest in producing a film with Diana Ross, but apparently, she won’t return his calls.
“She’s been ignoring me for years,” Perry told “Essence” while promoting his latest movie, Madea’s Witness Protection. “She’s the only person that I have dreamed of working with that will not return my phone calls.”
But he does recall a time when they had a short conversation.
“That was it, she never called me again. She said, “No!” And that was it.”
He says not even having a close association with Oprah Winfrey can’t get her to call back.
“Not when it comes to Diana Ross,” he jokes. “You can be friends with Obama, Oprah, Trump — that is Diana Ross! So, no.”
Not all is lost, however. Perry has managed to get two other childhood idols, Maria Gibbs and John Amos, into his latest movie.
“To be around Florence from The Jeffersons and James [Amos] from Good Times… to stand in the presence of people that I’ve admired is amazing.”

“Prometheus” Screenwriter Goes In On Tyler Perry [PHOTO]

June 28th, 2012 | By

Tyler Perry is learning a very painful reality in Hollywood–just because you make A-list money, it doesn’t guarantee you A-list cred.  While promoting the upcoming Madea Witness Protection, Perry told  Blackfilm.com:

“I love Sci Fi, I love the Alien movies and the Alien franchise. I was very disappointed with Prometheus, but I love that whole franchise. Those are my favorite movies. I’m actually working on a sci-fi movie right now.”

Perry’s plans to make a sci-fi movie were like blood in the water.  Twitter went haywire as followers created movie titles like “Madea Goes To Mars” and “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Prometheus All By Myself.”

Things really got interesting when Damon Lindelof, the screenwriter for Prometheus joined in the fray by tweeting, “I, for one CANNOT wait to see “Tyler Perry’s Better Than Prometheus.”  Then for good measure, Lindelof sent the following pic (courtesy of  Planet Pulp) titled “EXCLUSIVE SET PHOTO From “Tyler Perry’s Madea Killed Space Jesus”:

Lindelof ended his hilarious ribbing with  “Okay. Moving on now. Tyler Perry is entitled to his opinion, and I respect him for sharing it.”

No word from Perry, or Madea as of yet.

Tyler Perry interrogated by Atlanta police

April 6th, 2012 | By love not hate

Writer and director Tyler Perry has called for racial profiling to be made a crime under federal law after he was pulled over and interrogated by two white police officers.

Police in Atlanta, Georgia, have now launched an investigation after Mr Perry, America’s highest paid entertainer, wrote a Facebook post alleging he was racially profiled.

In it he writes: ‘RACIAL PROFILING SHOULD BE A HATE CRIME INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI!!!

‘That way local government can’t make the decision on whether or not these people get punished.’

That missive went viral and now boasts more than 117,000 ‘likes’, 21,000 comments, and 12,000 shares.

Racial profiling is banned by the the Fourth Amendment, which guarantees the right to be safe from unreasonable search and seizure without probable cause, and the Fourteenth Amendment, which requires that all citizens be treated equally under the law.

Mr Perry explained on Facebook that the incident began after he made a left turn from a far-right lane – a trick his bodyguards taught him to make sure he wasn’t being tailed.

Spotting the illegal move, two white Atlanta police officers pulled him over. Apparently they did not realise they had stopped one of the most famous men in the U.S.

Mr Perry, an actor, director, screen and playwright, producer, author and songwriter was last year named as the highest paid man in entertainment, earning $130 million between May 2010 and 2011 and beating Jerry Bruckheimer and Steven Spielberg.

When Mr Perry told the officers he had made the turn to ensure he wasn’t being tailed, one allegedly asked: ‘Why do you think someone would be following you?’

But before he was able to answer, the second officer started ‘banging’ on his passenger side window, apparently taking issue with the window’s tint, Mr Perry told fans.

After Mr Perry wound down his window, that officer then reached inside the vehicle to try to snatch the keys, he claimed.

As both officers ‘badgered’ Mr Perry about why he thought someone may be following him, Perry said he recalled his mother’s advice.

He wrote: ‘My mother would always say to me, “if you get stopped by the police, especially if they are white policemen, you say ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’, and if they want to take you in, you go with them. Don’t resist, you hear me? Don’t make any quick moves, don’t run, you just go.”‘

At this point, Mr Perry said, with the officers becoming increasingly agitated, he began to feel unsafe and told them he wanted to get out of his car. ‘I wanted the passersby to see what was happening,’ he wrote.

But then a second police cruiser pulled up, and a black Atlanta policeman emerged. ‘He took one look at me and had that “Oh No” look on his face,’ Mr Perry wrote.

Allegations: Mr Perry's Facebook post has over 117,000 likes, 22,000 comments and 12,000 sharesAllegations: Mr Perry’s Facebook post has over 117,000 likes, 22,000 comments and 12,000 shares

The black officer spoke ‘in a hushed tone’ to the two white officers, Mr Perry said. ‘After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic,’ he added.

Mr Perry wrote: ‘I said all of that to say this: do you see how quickly this could have turned for the worse?’

Mr Perry was released, but news reports do not indicate whether he was cited for his illegal left turn or tinted windows.

Georgia law requires drivers to approach a left turn from ‘the extreme left-hand lane’ of a multi-lane road, Georgia Public Broadcasting reports.

Georgia law also makes it a misdemeanor to tint driver’s or passenger’s side windows under certain conditions, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

The Atlanta police department’s Office of Professional Standards is looking into Tyler Perry’s racial-profiling claims, E! News reports

Tyler Perry To have His Own TV Network

August 15th, 2011 | By love not hate

Looks like Tyler Perry is taking a leaf out of his BFF Oprah’s book and is launching his “own” TV network! (Haha, get it? OWN? Like Oprah!)

Our friends over at TheYBF.com are reporting:

Media mogul Tyler Perry has announced plans to partner with Lionsgate on a new cable network to be named Tyler TV … the deets are still being ironed out but the network’s initial launch will be powered by reruns of Tyler’s sitcoms and movies as well as third-party content with a Christianity-slant.

At press time, neither party have denied or confirmed if there is any truth in the story. But for Tyler’s sake, we hope it’s true! This is pretty BIG.

Are You Ready For Another Madea Movie?

January 22nd, 2011 | By love not hate

Tyler Perry‘s Madea’s Big Happy Family has gotten a release date and a movie poster to go along with it (which is a spoof of The Godfather). The film will be in theaters on April 22 and will star Bow Wow, Loretta Devine, Lauren London, Teyana Taylor, Isaiah Mustafa, and of course, Tyler Perry himself. See a quick summary of the plot below:

Madea (Tyler Perry) jumps into action when her niece, Shirley (Loretta Devine), receives distressing news about her health. All Shirley wants is to gather her three adult children around her and share the news as a family. But Tammy (Natalie Desselle-Reid), Kimberly (Shannon Kane) and Byron (Bow Wow) are too distracted by their own problems: Tammy can’t manage her unruly children or her broken marriage; Kimberly is gripped with anger and takes it out on her husband; and Byron, after spending two years in jail, is under pressure to deal drugs again. It’s up to Madea, with the help of the equally rambunctious Aunt Bam (Cassi Davis), to gather the clan together and make things right the only way she knows how: with a lot of tough love, laughter…and the revelation of a long-buried family secret.

Will you be going to see this one?
